The pollution level in Delhi was recorded in the dangerous category for the 5th consecutive day.
The petition demanding implementation of measures to prevent air pollution in Delhi will be heard in the Supreme Court today. The case will be heard in the bench of Justice Abhay S Oak and Justice Augustine George Masih.
This case has been listed on the appeal of Amicus Curiae (Amicus Curiae) Senior Advocate Aparajita Singh. Who had demanded an immediate hearing in view of the current situation in Delhi.
On November 14, Amicus Curiae had said – Delhi government has not done anything for pollution, the situation is serious. Delhi should not become the most polluted city in the world. After this the court fixed the hearing on 18 November.
The matter is related to pollution management in Delhi-NCR. Which has been filed by MC Mehta. It covers issues like vehicular pollution, solid waste management and stubble burning in NCR states.
Here, due to increasing pollution in Delhi, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has implemented the fourth phase of Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP). Its rules will be effective from 8 am.
On the morning of November 1, AQI was recorded above 300 in Delhi. Since then it has grown continuously. On November 17, AQI was recorded more than 450.

- November 14: Why did you not take precautionary measures before reaching a dangerous situation? The bench had asked the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) why precautionary measures were not taken before the air quality reached the severe category. In fact, Amicus Curiae had said – CAQM should explain why they did not implement GRAP-Phase 3 before allowing AQI to deteriorate.
- November 11: No religion is a supporter of activities that increase pollution, clean air is a fundamental right. On violation of the order to ban firecrackers during Diwali, it was said that no religion supports polluting activities. Delhi government should decide in two weeks whether the firecracker ban should be extended for the whole year or not. The court said- Living in a clean environment is the fundamental right of every citizen under Article 21 of the Constitution.
