According to government data, so far 5.33 lakh people have died due to Covid-19 in India.

In the first phase of the Corona epidemic, about 1 lakh 48 thousand people died in India. But now new reports have proved these government figures wrong. Al Jazeera quoted the report of 10 major demographers and economists from around the world and said that in the year 2020, 8 times more people died in India.

The report said that in the first phase of Corona, about 12 lakh people lost their lives in India. This report was published in Science Advance Publication on Friday. It has been prepared on the basis of the National Family Health Survey (NFHS) of 2019-21 of the Government of India.

The figures released in the report are one and a half times more than the WHO figures. According to research, the average life expectancy of upper-caste Hindus declined by 1.3 years in 2020. At the same time, the average life expectancy of Scheduled Caste people declined by 2.7 years. Apart from this, the life expectancy of Muslim citizens of India decreased by 5.4 years compared to earlier.

More than 4.5 crore cases of Corona have been reported so far in India.

Women are more affected than men
The report states that the effect of corona was seen more in women than men. While the average life expectancy of men decreased by 2.1 years, a decline of 3 years was recorded in women. Whereas if the statistics of the whole world are seen, the life expectancy of men has declined more than that of women.

According to government data, after the first phase of Corona in 2020 and the second phase with the Delta wave in 2021, 4.81 lakh people died due to the pandemic in the country. In its report, the WHO called these figures wrong and claimed that actually 20-65 lakh people had died in India, which was the highest in the whole world.

The government rejected the WHO data
The Modi government had rejected these figures. The government had said that the UN’s model of obtaining data is wrong and it cannot be properly applied to India. But the special thing is that these figures are not just from WHO. Many public health experts and researchers have also consistently called the Indian government’s data wrong.

Prabhat Jha, director of the Center for Global Health Research, also confirmed the WHO figures. He said, “According to the data we had obtained, about 40 lakh people died due to Kovid-19 in India. Out of these, 30 lakh died due to the delta wave.”

There has been no response from the Indian government on the new report so far. However, after this many questions are being raised on the government data.

The first corona case was found in India on 27 January 2020 OfS
Around 70 lakh people died due to Covid in the world. It was declared a global emergency on 30 January 2020. Most people died due to Covid in America. Its first case in India was found in Kerala on 27 January 2020.
