Haryana Director General of Police (DGP) O.P. The statement given by Singh about Mahindra Thar and Bullet motorcycle owners has created a big controversy. Gurugram resident and businessman Sarvo Mitar has sent a legal notice to the DGP, calling the statement ‘derogatory’, baseless and damaging to reputation.
According to the report of the news agency, the notice that has been sent to him is regarding the statement given by the DGP in a press conference held in Gurugram on 8 November. While talking about road safety and traffic violations, the DGP had said that ‘most of the people driving Thar and Bullet have a criminal mindset.’ This statement quickly went viral and drew strong reactions on social media.
DGP’s statement was called insulting
In the notice sent through his lawyer, Sarvo Mitar has claimed that he had purchased Mahindra Thar in January 2023 for more than Rs 30 lakh. The reason for this was the safety, robust design and reliable performance of the vehicle, and not any kind of show off. The notice states that the DGP’s statement is not only devoid of facts but also insults all Thar owners.
The notice also states that immediately after the statement was made, the media persons present started laughing, which proves that the comment was made in a joking manner. The complainant alleges that after this statement, relatives, friends and neighbors asked him about this comment, which caused him mental stress, loss of social image and injury to his personal reputation.
Impact on reputation of Thar owners: Car owner
According to the notice, while holding the post of DGP, his words have a wide impact and such statements have deeply affected the public reputation of Thar owners. Calling it a case of defamation, the complainant has demanded an unconditional written apology from the DGP and withdrawal of the statement within 15 days. No response has been given by the police department on this matter. Now this matter has become a topic of discussion on social media and among the people who drive Thar.
