There was a fierce fight in the Turkish Parliament on Friday. MPs kicked and punched each other. This fight lasted for about 30 minutes. At least 3 MPs were injured in this. Blood splatters were also seen on the steps of the Speaker’s podium in the video footage.

In fact, an opposition MP called Turkish President Erdogan’s party a terrorist organization. On this, a leader of Erdogan’s AKP party attacked opposition leader Ahmed Sik.

The fight escalated and the MPs started punching each other. The video related to this incident is going viral on social media.

A scuffle broke out between members of the ruling AKP party and opposition MPs after a heated debate in Turkey’s parliament.

At least three MPs were injured in the melee.

Blood stains were also seen on the steps of the Speaker’s podium.

A meeting was being held regarding the MP imprisoned in jail
A special session was being held in the Turkish Parliament on Friday. In this, a discussion was going on about an MP Can Atalay. Atalay had protested against the Erdogan government in 2013 in which there was a lot of violence. After this, Atalay was arrested.

Atalay has been in jail since 2013. He was sentenced to 18 years in prison in 2022. Atalay won the elections held in May last year. He became an MP from the leftist TIP party. It has three seats in Parliament. After this, Erdogan’s party brought a bill and got Atalay’s membership of Parliament cancelled.

An appeal was made against this decision in court. On August 1, the Turkish Supreme Court gave its verdict in which the decision of the Parliament was overturned. Atalay became an MP again. The court restored all his rights as an MP.

Court orders release of MP
The court also ordered the release of Atalay from jail. In fact, Atalay had appealed to the court that he was not able to work in his area due to being in jail. He should be exempted from staying in jail for 5 years. He will go back to jail after completing his term. The court accepted his demand.

There was a debate going on in the parliament on this decision of the court. Ahmed Sik, a leader of Atalay’s own party, was giving a speech. He said, “We are not surprised that many MPs of the ruling party call Atalay a terrorist. Actually you call all those who speak against you terrorists, but the biggest terrorists are you people who are sitting here as MPs. Your party is a party of terrorists.”

His statement triggered a ruckus in the parliament. The proceedings of the parliament were halted due to the scuffle. After a break of more than three hours, the session resumed. The speaker reprimanded opposition party leader Sik for his statements against Erdogan’s party.

The speaker also reprimanded the leaders who attacked Sik. He talked about imposing a ban on both the MPs involved in the fight.
