A total of 679 books have been banned by the Taliban, of which about 140 books are written by women. The Taliban says that these books are against their policies and Sharia.

According to him, the policies of the Taliban have been anti -women since day one. If women are not allowed to read, their thoughts and writing will not be given a place.

According to the BBC, the Taliban’s Higher Education Ministry said that the decisions have been taken with the advice of religious scholars and experts. Apart from women’s books, this time the books of Iranian writers and publishers have also been banned.

Of the 679 books included in the restricted list, 310 are either Iranian writers or published in Iran. A member of the committee said that this step was taken so that the Iranian influence in the Afghan syllabus could not increase.

In addition, Iran has forced more than 1.5 million Afghans to leave the country since January this year. In such an environment, the ban on Iranian books is also being seen as a political decision.

However, this situation has become extremely difficult for university teachers. A professor said that the Iranian writer and translator used to work as a bridge between the Afghan education world and the global educational community till now. The removal of their books will lead to a major decrease in the level of education in universities.

A professor at the University of Kabul told the BBC that now he has to prepare the chapters of the textbook himself under compulsion, but it is difficult to say whether they will be according to the educational standards of the world or not.
