An earthquake of 6.1 magnitude occurred in the south-eastern region of Taiwan at around 5:47 pm on Wednesday. There has been no report of any damage. Its tremors were felt in China, Philippines and Japan.
According to the Central Weather Administration (CWA), the epicenter of the earthquake was 10.1 kilometers north of Taitung County Hall and its depth was 11.9 kilometers.
The intensity of earthquakes in Taiwan is measured on a scale of 1 to 7. Intensity level 5 was recorded in Taitung County, while level 4 was felt in Hualien and Pingtung counties.

The National Fire Agency said that at present there has been no news of any damage in Taiwan.

Following the 7.5-magnitude earthquake on December 8, a car became stuck in a roadway cave-in in Tohoku city, Aomori Prefecture.
The Japan Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami warning for Aomori, Iwate and Hokkaido prefectures.
This warning was withdrawn after a few hours. Many houses were damaged by the earthquake. Roads caved in, due to which many vehicles got stuck.
