A year ago there was an earthquake of 7.2 magnitude
A magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck the Hualien region of Taiwan on April 3, 2024. This was the most powerful earthquake in the last 25 years.
The earthquake killed 19 people, injured more than 1,100, caused many buildings to tilt or collapse, and caused landslides in mountainous areas.
It was the largest since the Chi-Chi earthquake of September 21, 1999. The 1999 earthquake had a magnitude of 7.7, killing more than 2,400 people and causing massive devastation.
In 2016, more than 100 people were killed in a 6.4 magnitude earthquake in southern Taiwan.

An earthquake of 7.5 magnitude occurred in Taiwan on April 3, 2024. More than 100 buildings, many roads, bridges and tunnels were damaged in this.
Taiwan built on two tectonic plates
Taiwan is prone to earthquakes because it is located at the junction of the Earth’s two largest tectonic plates, the Eurasian Plate and the Philippine Sea Plate.
These plates are moving towards each other and colliding, which creates a lot of pressure inside the ground. When this pressure builds suddenly, an earthquake occurs.
This place is part of the Ring of Fire around the Pacific Ocean, where most of the world’s earthquakes and volcanoes occur.
In Taiwan, the Philippine Sea Plate is subducting beneath the Eurasian Plate, creating mountains and several active fault lines on the island. For this reason, thousands of small and big earthquakes occur here every year.
There was an earthquake of 7.5 magnitude in Japan.
