US President Donald Trump welcomed Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) to the White House in Washington DC late on Tuesday night. Both of them held a meeting in the Oval Office of the White House and answered questions from the media.

During this, Trump got enraged at a female journalist’s question regarding the murder of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018. The journalist asked Trump why US intelligence claims Prince Salman orchestrated Khashoggi’s brutal murder. In such a situation, is it right for your family to do business in Saudi?

Trump interrupted the journalist and asked – Where have you come from? The journalist replied- I am from ABC News. Trump said- Fake news, ABC fake news. One of the worst institutions in this business. Trump further said- I have nothing to do with the family business. My family does business all over the world.

The US President further responded and said – As far as Saudi Prince Salman is concerned, he did not know anything about the Khashoggi murder. You do not need to embarrass our guests by asking such questions. Things keep happening.

The last meeting between Trump and Prince Salman was on May 13, 2025, at the Royal Court in Riyadh.

Prince Salman Khashoggi’s murder Reached America after 7 years

This is Prince Salman’s first visit to Washington after 7 years. He last visited America in 2018. Just months after his visit, on October 2, 2018, Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi was murdered inside the Saudi Embassy in Istanbul.

After this, Prince Salman had to face a lot of criticism at the international level. However, international politics has changed a lot in the last 7 years. Disputes have arisen on many issues between America and allied countries. America has had to face the resentment of many countries because of helping Israel in the Gaza war.

On the other hand, relations between China and Saudi Arabia have strengthened. Last month, the two countries conducted joint naval exercises and China played the role of mediator in the Saudi-Iran agreement in 2023. Even on the trade front, China has now become Saudi’s biggest partner.

Trump may finalize deal to sell F-35 fighter jet

A deal for 48 F-35 aircraft may be signed during Saudi Prince Salman’s visit to America. President Donald Trump said on Monday that he would sell this aircraft to Saudi because it is a strong ally of America. But many Pentagon officials consider it a major threat to national security.

The White House said that Saudi Arabia is going to invest $600 billion in America. This will give a big boost to energy security, defense industry, technology and global infrastructure.

However, American security agencies are worried about this decision. He says that if this deal happens, China can get access to the advanced technology of these aircraft. The F-35 is the world’s most advanced stealth fighter jet. Leaking its technology could weaken America’s military edge.

There is already a defense partnership between Saudi Arabia and China. A recent report by the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), which comes under the Pentagon, says that if Saudi gets F-35, China can access American stealth technology through it.

F-35 5th generation fighter jet

F-35 is America’s 5th generation fighter aircraft. It has been developed by Lockheed Martin Company. Manufacturing of this plane was started from 2006. Since 2015, it has been included in the US Air Force. This is the most expensive aircraft in the history of the Pentagon.

There are 3 variants of F-35, whose price starts between Rs 700 crore to Rs 944 crore. Apart from this, there is an additional cost of Rs 31.20 lakh every hour to operate the F-35.

Why the fear of technology theft from China?

According to the New York Times report, China has been spying and copying American military technology for a long time.

Experts say that if Saudi and China conduct joint military projects or exercises, China may get an opportunity to study the radar-avoidance, software systems, and sensor technology of these aircraft. This technology can further strengthen China’s own stealth fighter J-20.

Officials say the deal would be a long-term security risk for the US. They are apprehensive that in view of China’s closeness to Saudi, it will be difficult to ensure the security of the technology.

Only Israel has F-35 in the Middle East. If China gets access to technology, it can create new capabilities to challenge Israel’s military superiority.

Defense, AI and investment agreements can be discussed

According to media reports, defense cooperation, nuclear technology, artificial intelligence and investment agreements may be discussed during the meeting between Trump and MBS.

Saudi Arabia wants a strong defense agreement with the US, while Trump wants Saudi Arabia to support his Gaza peace proposal and also help in rehabilitating Gaza.

Under his Vision 2030 plan, MBS wants to reduce the Saudi economy’s dependence on oil and move it towards technology and new industries.

After becoming President for the second time, Trump first called MBS

After taking oath as President for the second time, the first person Trump called was Saudi Prince Salman. A few days after the swearing-in, Trump was questioned by the media about his first foreign visit.

In response to this question, he had said that the country which invests the most in America, he will visit there first.

After this, the Saudi government had issued a statement saying that their country is ready to invest 600 billion dollars (Rs 50 lakh crore) in America within the next four years.

However, Trump had said that he would like to see it increased to $1 trillion, which also includes the purchase of more and more American military equipment.

There is a huge amount of $925 billion in Saudi Arabia’s Sovereign Wealth Fund and Public Investment Fund (PIF). Saudi has already made many investments in America through this. At the same time, UAE has also expressed its desire to invest $1.4 trillion in America’s AI, semiconductor, energy and infrastructure sectors in the next 10 years.
