US President Donald Trump has once again reiterated his desire for US control over Greenland. This has angered the leaders of Denmark and Greenland.

Speaking to reporters on Air Force One on Monday, Trump said that Greenland is very important for national security and the presence of Russian and Chinese ships there is a matter of concern. Earlier, in an interview given to The Atlantic Magazine, Trump had also said that America needs Greenland for defense purposes.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen immediately reacted to Trump’s comment and said that it is completely absurd for America to talk about occupying Greenland. Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Fredrik Nielsen also called Trump’s comments wrong and insulting.

This controversy has deepened after the US Army captured Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife and took them to New York. Maduro will be prosecuted on drug trafficking charges.

Denmark PM said- America does not have the right to take over the Danish empire.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen stated bluntly, “The United States has no need to annex Greenland, nor does it have any right to annex any part of the Danish Empire.”

Frederiksen appealed to Trump to stop making threats against the close ally and reminded that the people of Greenland themselves have clearly said that they are not for sale.

Denmark is a member of NATO and already has a defense agreement with the US, under which the US already has access to Greenland.

Greenland PM said – our country is not going to be sold

Greenland Prime Minister Jens-Fredrik Nielsen said that when the US President talks about military intervention by linking Greenland to Venezuela, it is not only wrong but disrespectful towards our people.

Nielsen issued a statement on January 4 saying – I want to say calmly and clearly from the beginning that there is no reason for panic or concern. Katie Miller’s post, which shows Greenland draped in the American flag, doesn’t change anything.

“We are a democratic society with free elections and strong institutions. Our position is based on international law and internationally recognized agreements. There is no question about that. The Greenland government is continuing its work peacefully and responsibly,” Nielsen said.

Controversy erupts over American officer’s wife’s post

Just after the US action in Venezuela, Katie Miller, wife of Stephen Miller, a senior White House official, posted on social media a map of Greenland colored in the colors of the US flag. This increased the dispute further.

“Soon,” Miller captioned his post. This increased fears of American occupation of Greenland and Denmark. Trump has long been talking about including Greenland into the US. In which he has cited national security, mineral resources and the activities of Russia-China in the Arctic region.

Earlier in March, US Vice President JD Vance visited a US military base in Greenland and accused Denmark of under-investing there.

Katy Miller, wife of American officer Stephen Miller, had posted this map of Greenland on social media, which was colored in the colors of the American flag.

The US and Denmark are close allies, both founding members of NATO.

Experts believe Trump’s comments on Greenland after the Venezuela incident could increase tensions between NATO allies.

Denmark and Greenland are part of the Kingdom of Denmark and are members of NATO, making responsibility for its defense under NATO’s collective security umbrella.

The United States has a close and cooperative relationship with Denmark and Greenland. Denmark is a founding member of NATO. The US is allowed to have a military base in Greenland under a 1951 defense agreement. Both countries cooperate in security, science, environment and trade.

Know what America benefits from Greenland

  • Strategic Military Importance: Greenland is located in the Arctic region, which is very important for military and missile surveillance between the US, Europe and Russia. America already has Thule Air Base here, which is necessary for missile warning and monitoring Russian/Chinese activities.
  • Keep an eye on China and Russia: The activities of Russia and China are increasing in the Arctic region. Due to its influence on Greenland, America wants to strengthen its geopolitical hold in this area.
  • Natural Resources: Greenland is believed to have large reserves of rare minerals, oil, gas and rare earth elements, which are of great economic and technological importance in the future. China controls 70-90% of their production, so America wants to reduce its dependence.
  • New maritime trade routes: Due to global warming, Arctic ice is melting, opening up new shipping routes. Control of Greenland will help the US dominate these routes and stop Russia-China advance in the Arctic region.
  • US Security Policy: The US considers Greenland the “front line” of its national security. By increasing its influence there, it wants to prevent possible future threats in advance.

America attacked Venezuela and kidnapped the President

US troops attacked Venezuela on the night of January 2 and kidnapped President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Celia Flores.

After this he has been brought to New York, where he has been kept in the detention center. They will be prosecuted in cases related to arms and drugs.

Maduro will be presented in Manhattan Federal Court today. Maduro is accused of arms and drug smuggling in America.

Maduro’s wife Celia Flores has also been included in the case. He has been accused of ordering kidnappings and murders.
