EU imposes sanctions on 826 Russian companies The European Union has imposed new sanctions on Russia as it defends Trump’s decision to buy diesel from Russia. According to the European Council, the new sanctions include 1,569 people and entities. These include 826 Russian companies and 743 people working as chief executive officers of those companies. The purpose of these sanctions is to increase pressure on companies providing goods and services to Russia’s military industry. According to the European Council, the annual turnover of these companies is at least 20 billion euros and they employ more than 2.5 lakh people.
