Amidst America’s military threat, Iran has made a big claim about its strength. The Iranian army says that it has prepared 1000 drones that can attack from land and sea.
This statement has come at a time when US President Donald Trump has warned of more stringent attacks on Iran. According to Trump, American warships are moving towards Iran.
The Iranian Army claims that if America attacks, this network of drones and missiles can play an important role in the country’s defense.
In June last year, America attacked Iran’s nuclear facilities.
Iran produced large number of drones after American attack
Iran’s army chief Major General Amir Hatami said that Iran has changed its military strategy after the 12-day conflict in June last year. Under this, a large number of drones have been prepared.
According to Hatami, these drones can be operated from both land and sea. Apart from this, Iran already has a large number of ballistic missiles.
Iran has indicated that it may fire missiles and drones at US bases in Qatar and Israel as soon as June 2025.
In June last year, Iran carried out missile attacks on the US Army base in Qatar. However, the US Army had said that these attacks would be foiled.
EU designates Iranian army as terrorist organization
The European Union (EU) has declared Iran’s Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) a terrorist organization. This decision has been taken due to the violent action of the Iranian government on the protests.
Sanctions have also been imposed on 15 officials and 6 organizations, including top commanders of the Revolutionary Guard. These also include organizations that monitor online content. Their properties in Europe will be confiscated and their travel will be banned.
EU diplomat Kaja Kalas said the repression cannot be ignored. He said that IRGC will now be considered equal to terrorist organizations like Al-Qaeda and Islamic State.
Australia, Canada and America have already declared IRGC as a terrorist organization. However, Britain has not yet included it in its terrorist list.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has called this EU decision a ‘sham move’ and a ‘big strategic mistake’. He says that Europe is increasing tension instead of handling the situation.
IRGC is considered to be the most powerful military force of Iran. It was established after the Islamic Revolution of 1979. It has about 1.90 lakh active soldiers.
The command of IRGC is directly in the hands of Supreme Leader Khamenei.
America increased deployment in Middle East
Strengthening its military presence in the Middle East, the US has deployed aircraft carriers USS Abraham Lincoln, USS Theodore Roosevelt and several missile destroyers in the Arabian Sea and the Red Sea.
Additionally, Air Force activity has increased from military bases in Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Jordan. America is now in a position to attack Iran’s nuclear bases, military bases and command centers from both sea and air.
On January 28, Trump had asked Iran to compromise on its nuclear program and warned that the next attack would be more dangerous than before. The US Defense Minister has also said that the army is ready for any military order from the President.
Iranian Foreign Minister reached Turkey amid tension
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Istanbul on Friday. He has met Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan here.
The purpose of this visit is to discuss the increasing tension between America and Iran. Turkey is offering mediation to reduce the tension. According to the statement of Iran’s Foreign Ministry, Araghchi is also scheduled to meet with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Turkey’s Foreign Minister has appealed to both sides to return to the negotiating table. Fidan also suggested that America should resolve the issues related to Iran one by one.
He said that first of all the issues related to the nuclear program should be discussed and not all the issues should be raised together.
Araghchi met Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in Ankara on Friday.
Trump has been aggressive against Iran since his first term
In his first term (2017-2021), Trump completely pulled the US out of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran.
This agreement was signed in July 2015 during the Obama administration, which included Iran, US, Britain, France, Germany, Russia, China and the European Union. Under the agreement, Iran had imposed several strict limits on its nuclear activities, such as:
- Limiting uranium enrichment to 3.67% (more than 90% is needed to make a bomb).
- Keeping the stock of enriched uranium very low.
- Limiting the number of centrifuge machines.
- To give full permission for inspection to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
30,000 to 40,000 American soldiers deployed in the Middle East
The US military presence in the Middle East (CENTCOM) is currently very strong. About 30,000 to 40,000 US troops are deployed in the Middle East and Persian Gulf.
At present there are about 6 naval ships in the Middle East, including 3 guided missile destroyers, which are capable of ballistic missile defense and other operations.
