During the examination by the doctors in the jail, this disease has been described as very serious and sensitive. The party said that in the opinion of medical experts, if proper treatment is not given, Imran may lose his eyesight forever. Allegation- Administration is adamant on getting Imran Khan treated inside the jail. According to the report of Pakistani newspaper DAWN, the party alleges that despite medical advice, the administration of Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail is adamant on getting Imran Khan treated inside the jail itself. PTI quoted doctors as saying that the treatment of this disease requires an operation theater and special facilities, which are not available in Adiala jail. The party has demanded that Imran Khan be shifted to a big hospital of his choice. The party has specifically asked for treatment in Shaukat Khanum Hospital or any other good hospital. Besides, a demand has also been made to allow them to meet family and close people without any restrictions. Imran’s sisters demonstrated outside the jail. However, before this case was registered against Imran, he was already lodged in Adiala jail in the Toshakhana case. What is CRVO, which can cause loss of eyesight? Central Retinal Vein Occlusion (CRVO) is a serious eye disease. In this, there is a blockage in the main vein that carries blood out of the retina inside the eye. Retina is the part of the eye that works for seeing. After the vein gets closed, blood starts accumulating in the retina. This causes swelling and may also cause bleeding. If this condition persists for a long time, permanent damage to the retina can occur. According to experts, the risk of vision loss in CRVO is greater when treatment is delayed. Especially if the blockage is complete, there is excessive swelling in the retina or there is frequent bleeding. In many cases, if treatment is not received within 24 to 72 hours, the damage can be permanent. In case of CRVO, immediate treatment is necessary. Treatment of CRVO is not possible with normal medicines or small clinics. For this, retina specialist is required immediately. During treatment, special injections are given to reduce swelling inside the eye. In some cases laser treatment also has to be done. Apart from this, it is also important to control diseases like high blood pressure, diabetes and cholesterol, because these are considered to be major causes of blockage. For the treatment of this disease, facilities like operation theatre, sterile environment and experienced specialists are necessary. Former US President Wilson had a disease like CRVO. America’s 28th President Woodrow Wilson also had a serious eye problem during his tenure. At that time, the medical term CRVO was not in use, but the vision in one of his eyes suddenly decreased and there was bleeding in the retina. Today’s doctors and medical experts believe that the problem Woodrow Wilson suffered was similar in symptoms to CRVO. Actually, CRVO is a technical medical diagnosis. In common language, people call it ‘blockage in the eye vein’ or ‘closure of the retinal vein’. In many cases, either the exact name of the disease is not made public, or the complete medical information of the patient is not revealed. According to doctors, in earlier times such diseases were dismissed as just “sudden loss of vision” or “bleeding in the retina”, whereas today they are recognized as separate medical conditions. Problem of CRVO in diabetic patients in India: A big study has already been done on CRVO disease in India. This study was conducted in 14 major eye care hospitals of India, in which more than 11 thousand type-2 diabetes patients were included. The investigation found that out of every 100 diabetic patients, about 3 patients were found to have blockage in the retinal veins. There are two types of this disease. The first is branch retinal vein occlusion and the second is central retinal vein occlusion. The study revealed that about two-thirds of the patients had the first type, while about one-third of the patients had the same disease as Imran Khan. Research also found that in most cases this disease occurs in only one eye, but its effects can be serious. Most cases of central retinal vein occlusion were found to be severe, with a high risk of vision loss. According to the study, the number of years one has been suffering from diabetes is not that important, but if sugar is not under control then the risk increases. Apart from this, high blood pressure and previous stroke were found to be the biggest causes of this disease. Doctors say that the number of diabetes and high blood pressure patients is increasing rapidly in India, hence the risk of such eye diseases is also increasing.
