Trump and Zelensky met behind closed doors at the White House on Friday (October 17).

US President Donald Trump has asked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to accept Russia’s conditions. He said that if Ukraine did not do this, Putin would destroy it. This information was given by the Financial Times on Sunday.

During a closed-door meeting at the White House on Friday, Trump told Zelensky that Ukraine should hand over all of eastern Donbass to Russia. According to the report, Trump threw out maps of the Ukrainian military front during the meeting.

Russian President Putin had said the same things to Trump on phone a day earlier, on October 16. Putin had told Trump that if Ukraine handed over Donbass, it would be given back parts of Kherson and Zaporozhye in return.

Earlier in 2024, Putin had sought capture of entire Donbass, Kherson and Zaporizhia. However, in the end Zelensky persuaded Trump to agree to stop the war on the existing border.

Before the closed-door meeting, a bilateral meeting took place between the two leaders over the lunch table.

Zelensky had reached the White House to ask for weapons

Zelensky arrived at the White House in hopes of getting weapons so he could continue the war. But the American President was paying more attention to the peace agreement.

Zelensky asked the US President for Tomahawk missiles to fight Russia. However, Trump expressed hesitation regarding this.

Trump said- I want Ukraine to never need Tomahawk. However, Zelensky made a deal to give thousands of drones made in Ukraine in exchange for Tomahawk. Trump agreed to this but also said that giving long-range weapons to Ukraine would further increase the tension between the two countries.

Trump claims- Ukraine can end the war

Trump and Zelensky spoke to the media before the meeting. During this, both of them answered many questions. Trump once again said that he can end the war by talking to Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

He said his summit with Putin in Budapest in the coming weeks would be a ‘double meeting’, where he would meet Putin and Zelensky separately, but the two presidents would not meet each other directly.

Describing himself as a mediator, Trump said, ‘These two leaders do not like each other at all. In such a situation, they want to fix everything.

Trump said- We make our own weapons

On the exchange of Tomahawk missiles and drones, Trump said – We make our own drones, but we also buy drones from others and they (Ukraine) make very good drones.

When a journalist asked Trump whether the US would give Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine so that it could attack Russia.

He acknowledged that providing long-range weapons to Ukraine would increase tensions in a war with Russia, but still expressed his desire to discuss the issue with Zelensky.

Trump said- Zelensky has faced a lot of difficulties

Trump praised Zelensky and said that he has faced a lot of difficulties. However, when he was asked whether Ukraine would have to give its land to Russia for a peace agreement, he did not give a clear answer. Trump said- War is very difficult. Even though you know everything, you know nothing.
