A helicopter carrying 6 people crashed in Marondera area of Zimbabwe on Wednesday. After this the helicopter caught fire. According to the government spokesperson, there were 4 passengers and 2 crew members in the helicopter. There is no one left alive. Among the dead were 43-year-old prominent businessman Vikanel Chiwayo and his wife Lucy Muteke. Chivayo was considered close to Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa. Police and relief teams have reached the spot and are busy identifying the dead bodies. The helicopter fell in the Marondera area, about 70 kilometers east of the capital Harare. Police received information about the accident at around 5 pm on Wednesday evening. The reason for the accident has not been revealed yet and it will be investigated. Chiwayo was close to many leaders including the President. Chiwayo used to share photos and videos of his meetings with President Mnangagwa on social media. He also met several regional leaders, including South Africa’s Cyril Ramaphosa, Kenya’s William Ruto, Tanzania’s Samia Suluhu Hassan and Eswatini’s King Mswati III. Questions were also raised regarding business. There were also allegations regarding Chivayo’s business and political connections related to government contracts and election funding in Zimbabwe and surrounding countries. He had denied these allegations. He was also known for giving expensive cars and cash to celebrities, religious leaders, politicians and social media followers.
