Chinese President Xi Jinping may attend the BRICS summit to be held in New Delhi next month. This will be his first visit to India after 7 years.

India will host the BRICS summit on September 12-13. According to Reuters, a large delegation of about 400 officials may accompany Jinping.

Trade and supply of essential goods also on the agenda

Not only the border dispute between India and China, but also trade and economic relations are part of the talks. India wants to reduce its huge trade deficit with China. Apart from this, India is also trying to reduce its dependence on the supply of essential goods like rare earth magnets and electronic components.

India is presiding over the BRICS summit

This year the command of BRICS is with India. BRICS is a group of major emerging economies of the world. This includes India, Russia, China, Brazil and South Africa along with Egypt, Iran, Ethiopia, UAE and Indonesia.

Under the chairmanship of India, meetings, ministerial conferences and various levels of discussions are being held in different cities throughout the year.

India’s focus is on strengthening the voice of the Global South, economic cooperation, energy security, digital technology, countering terrorism and strengthening supply chains. That is, there is an effort to take BRICS forward not just as a political platform but as a big platform for trade, investment and development.
