Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on his way to meet the Governor.

The matter of giving place to Haryana Legislative Assembly is heated in Chandigarh. A team led by Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh has met Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria. Cheema told the media after the meeting – We have

.

Haryana Government has sent a proposal to the Governor that you give us ten acres of land, we will give you 12 acres of Panchkula. He has not written the purpose in the proposal. However, its objective is to form the Haryana Legislative Assembly here. We have registered our protest against this thing. Chandigarh is of Punjab. We are not ready to give even a single inch of land to Haryana.

It is clear in the agreement that Chandigarh belongs to Punjab

The Finance Minister said that we have given a memorandum to the Governor. He has also cited the act when Punjab and Haryana were separated. He said that in the Sant Longewala agreement signed with Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, it was clearly stated that Chandigarh belongs to Punjab and only Punjab will get it. Whereas Punjab was previously ruled by either Congress or Akali Dal-BJP. These parties keep talking about Chandigarh among the people. But this matter was never raised with the Centre. There has been politics in this matter. He said that the Governor has assured that he will consider all the things before taking any decision. We have handed over many documents to them.

Haryana should form assembly in Panchkula

Harpal Singh Cheema, in response to a question, said that Punjab is known for brotherhood. Punjab is the land of Gurus and Peers. Punjab has made the maximum sacrifices for the country. We are standing like a wall to save the country. When we were separated from Haryana. So it was decided that Haryana would form its own assembly. They are trying to capture the capital of Punjab after 60 years. Haryana, which is talking about giving land, should build its assembly on the same land in Panchkula. Three crore people of Punjab oppose giving land in Chandigarh to Haryana.

Opponents are lying, we raised the issue

On the charge of not opposing this thing in the North Zone meeting, the Finance Minister said that the opposition parties are making false allegations. We had come to present our stand. Shiromani Akali Dal, BJP and Congress have failed. He has also failed. Chandigarh is of Punjab. Whatever battle has to be fought, we will fight. Also, even if we have to go to court, we will not step back. The rights of Punjab will not be allowed to be violated.

Information about the letter written by Pratap Singh Bajwa to PM Modi was shared on social media.

Bajwa said that PM should come forward on this issue

Senior Punjab Congress leader Pratap Singh Bajwa has written a letter to the Prime Minister on the issue of Chandigarh. In this he has called for accepting Punjab’s legitimate claim on Chandigarh and fulfilling the long-standing promises made to the state. Bajwa has expressed concern that every move to accommodate Haryana is destroying the sanctity of the promises made to Punjab and weakening the federal spirit of mutual respect.

Bajwa wrote that restoring Chandigarh as the special capital of Punjab would not only be a gesture of goodwill, but would also renew faith in honored promises and the bond of mutual respect. He expressed hope that Prime Minister Modi will come forward on this issue and honor the heritage of Punjab by restoring the special rights of Punjab over Chandigarh.

Punjab has deep feelings related to Chandigarh

BJP chief Sunil Jakhar said that Chandigarh, as the capital of Punjab, is not only a land area but also has deep sentiments of the people of Punjab associated with it. In an attempt to heal the wounds suffered by Punjab in the past, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken steps for the social and religious upliftment of Punjabis. As part of his efforts, Haryana has been given 10 acres of land for a separate assembly building in Chandigarh. The intimacy of Punjab will be hurt. I believe that this decision should be reconsidered to maintain strong relations between Punjab and the Centre. He has sought intervention from the Prime Minister in this matter.

Punjab and Haryana face to face on Chandigarh issue

On this issue, Minister Anil Vij said – “Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann Saheb says that Chandigarh is ours, but Chandigarh is yours only when you will transfer the Hindi speaking region to Haryana, when we will get the Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL). You will give water, till you do not give it we have the right over it. We are sitting in Chandigarh only because Punjab is not implementing the agreement made between the two states, so how did Chandigarh become yours?

While Kiran Choudhary said- Chandigarh is a union territory. Our ratio here was 60:40 from the beginning. We didn’t even get that. We have given 12 acres of land to Chandigarh and in lieu of that, our assembly is being built on 10 acres. In this, seats of both Punjab and Haryana will increase. No work can be done inside this building. Future planning is being done for that. On Sunil Jakhar’s statement, he said that it would be his political compulsion. He will have to talk about Punjab.

This is the whole proposal

In the NZC meeting in Jaipur in July 2022, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had approved the proposal to provide land in Chandigarh for the new building of Haryana Assembly. For the new assembly, 10 acres of land is being given by Chandigarh near the road leading from the railway station to the IT Park.

In return, 12 acres of land will be taken from Haryana. The 12 acres of land near Mansa Devi Complex comes in the eco-sensitive zone. On this, the Environment Ministry of the Central Government has issued a notification and made changes.
