After the controversy over the title of the film ‘Ghooskhor Pandit’, now the word ‘Pandit’ has once again come into discussion. This time the matter is related to Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment Examination. A controversy has arisen over the choice of a question asked in the Hindi section in the first shift of the examination. Objections are being raised on the options given in this question, after which the debate regarding this has intensified on social media and in different sections.
Actually, the question asked in the Hindi section was – Select one word for the phrase ‘changes as per the occasion’. Four options were given for this question, which included A- Pundit, B- Opportunist, C- Sincere and D- Virtuous. The recruitment board has also confirmed that this question will be asked in the question paper.
Questions raised regarding options
Objection is being raised regarding the inclusion of the word ‘Pandit’ in the question option. Many people say that such an option may hurt the sentiments of a section of the society. For this reason this matter has become increasingly discussed.
After the controversy escalated, the Uttar Pradesh government has also taken cognizance of this matter. The government has clearly said that hurting the dignity of any society or class through any question is not acceptable.
Strong objection from Deputy CM Brijesh Pathak
Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brijesh Pathak has expressed strong objection to this matter. He said that a serious objection has come to light regarding the options for a question in the UP Police Recruitment Examination and the government has taken it seriously.
He said that if any question hurts the dignity of any society or class then it is absolutely not acceptable. He also made it clear that words derogatory towards any caste, community or tradition should not find place.
Order for investigation, warning of action
The Deputy Chief Minister said that instructions have been given to immediately investigate this entire matter. It has also been said that strict action will be taken against those who are found responsible for this.
He also said that the Uttar Pradesh government works on the principle of respect, equality and sensitivity of all societies. The dignity of every citizen of the state is the top priority of the government. At present, investigation has been ordered in this matter and further action will be taken on the basis of the investigation report.
At the same time, BJP MLA from Badlapur Assembly of Jaunpur, Ramesh Chandra Mishra has written a letter to the Chief Minister, objecting to the controversial question of UP Police Recruitment Examination. He said that including the word ‘Pandit’ in the option is an insult to the intellectual society and hurts the sentiments of a community. The MLA has demanded cancellation of the question and departmental inquiry and strict action against the committee that set the paper.
After MLA Ramesh Chandra Mishra, BJP MLA from Deoria Shalabh Mani Tripathi has written a letter to the Chief Minister objecting to the inclusion of the word ‘Pandit’ in the option of a question in the Sub-Inspector Recruitment Examination. He said that giving such an option in the question paper appears to be a deliberate conspiracy and crime. The MLA has demanded Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to investigate the matter and take strict action against those responsible.
The board issued a statement clarifying
Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board has issued a clarification amid discussions on social media regarding a question of the first shift of the recruitment examination for Sub Inspector Civil Police and equivalent posts held on March 14, 2026. The board said that the question papers are not prepared at the local level, but are prepared through top secret institutions so that confidentiality is maintained. No officer or employee of the board is allowed to see the question paper first. Sealed packets are opened only in front of the candidates at the examination centres. In the case of the disputed question, investigation has been ordered and action will be taken against the culprits.
