Govinda’s wife said – Whether God or Satan comes, no one will be able to separate us.

News of the divorce of Govinda and his wife Sunita Ahuja made headlines several times in 2025, but most of them turned out to be rumours. According to reports, Sunita had filed a divorce petition in Bandra Family Court alleging cruelty, adultery and abandonment, but the family and lawyer termed these as old rumours.

According to the news published in ABP News, Sunita had talked about her family in different podcasts. She indicated about living separately from Govinda, celebrating birthday alone and sourness in the relationship, due to which the discussion of divorce intensified.

Govinda’s manager and lawyer Lalit Bindal clearly said that no divorce process is going on, it is just differences over film projects. Daughter Tina Ahuja also broke her silence, but did not say much. The rumors stopped after they were seen together on Ganesh Chaturthi.

In October 2025, Govinda himself revealed that he had forgiven Sunita many times, but gave a firm reply to the rumors of extramarital affair. Efforts are on to save the 38 year old relationship. At the same time, on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi, Sunita Ahuja had given her statement on the rumors of divorce with Govinda.

While talking to news agency ANI, Sunita had said – No one can separate us, even if someone from above comes, God comes, even the devil comes. No one can separate. Please don’t say anything until we open our mouths.

When Govinda was struggling in Mumbai, he met his childhood friend Sunita. Initially there used to be a lot of fights between the two, but gradually these fights turned into love. Sunita was only 18 years old when they got married secretly on March 11, 1987, because Govinda feared that revealing the marriage could harm his career.

After marriage, Govinda’s films started becoming superhit, but due to his busy schedule, differences between the two increased. Many times it came to the point of divorce, but Sunita always supported me. One year after the marriage, daughter Tina was born, after which Govinda revealed the secret of the marriage.

Sunita said on Govinda’s affairs – never caught red handed

Govinda’s name is most associated with Neelam Kothari. In an interview in 1990, he himself confessed that he had made up his mind to break his engagement with Sunita and marry Neelam, but Sunita persuaded him. In the 90s, news of affairs with Divya Bharti, Raveena Tandon, Rani Mukherjee and Karisma Kapoor were also published in magazines, where there were talks of a close relationship during the shooting.

Recently, rumors of an affair with a 30-year-old Marathi actress were linked to the news of divorce. Govinda’s wife Sunita Ahuja accepted these rumors in several interviews, but said that she never caught him red-handed. He also hinted at an affair with a Marathi actress.

All three started competing with Khan

Govinda debuted in 1986 with ‘Ilzaam’ and ‘Love 86’, both of which were hits. In 1987-1990, he became an action-dance hero with films like ‘Khudgarj’, ‘Swarg’, ‘Hum’. ​ Govinda’s star was very high in the 80’s and 90’s. At that time, every film he appeared in proved to be a blockbuster at the box office. There came a phase in his career when 14 of his films were released consecutively in a year.

It is said that during that period Govinda used to give competition to all three Khans. Although during that time some films like ‘Gentleman’, ‘Aakhri Baazi’ and ‘Maha Sangram’ were flops, but it did not have much impact on his career.

Golden era of Govinda’s career

1992’s ‘Shola Aur Shabnam’ and 1993’s ‘Aankhen’ made Govinda a comic hero, becoming the biggest hits of 1993. ‘Shola Aur Shabnam’ is said to be the first come back of Govinda’s career. After this, Govinda did more than 10 blockbuster films with film director David Dhawan like ‘Raja Babu’, ‘Coolie No. 1’, ‘Hero No. 1’, ‘Dulhe Raja’, ‘Bade Miyan Chhote Miyan’, ‘Haseena Maan Jayegi’.

An advice had spoiled David-Govinda’s relationship, now reconciliation

There was a time when the pairing of Govinda and David Dhawan was a hit, but an advice from David Dhawan spoiled the relationship with Govinda. Whereas Govinda did 17 films with David Dhawan, most of which were hits. But during the shooting of ‘Ek Aur Ek Gyarah’, Govinda did not like a scene. He suggested a change, but David flatly refused.

Just then Sanjay Dutt arrived and supported David and held Govinda wrong. This thing displeased Govinda. This action of Govinda was difficult for David and he kept distance.

Govinda wanted to leave politics and return to Bollywood. He tried many times to meet David, but he could not meet him. Finally Govinda sent his secretary. David said, ‘Tell Govinda to do small roles.’ This thing touched Govinda’s heart.

In the year 2024, Govinda-David Dhawan met at Ramesh Taurani’s Diwali party and resolved all their grievances. When Govinda was shot, David Dhawan along with his wife had reached the hospital to meet Govinda.

Govinda shot with his licensed revolver

Govinda was accidentally shot with his own licensed revolver at 4:45 am at his home in Juhu. While preparing to catch a Kolkata flight, he was cleaning the revolver in the cupboard when the trigger got pressed and the bullet hit him near the knee of his left leg.

Hearing the noise, the family immediately admitted him to Criticare Hospital. Doctors removed the bullet and kept him in the ICU, but his condition soon stabilised. He was discharged on 4 October. Govinda called it a mere accident.

Police seized the revolver and investigated, but no complaint was registered. Manager Shashi Sinha confirmed that it was a misfire.

When films started flopping, he entered politics

After his relationship with David Dhawan deteriorated, Govinda’s film career also came to a standstill. When films like ‘Albela’, ‘Dil Ne Phir Yaad Kiya’, ‘Ankhi Se Goli Mare’ and ‘Wah Tera Kya Kehna’ started flopping, Govinda entered politics. Govinda entered politics in 2004 and became an MP by winning the Mumbai North Lok Sabha seat from Congress. He defeated veteran BJP leader Ram Naik by about 50,000 votes.

Govinda worked in several films like ‘Sandwich’ and ‘Sukh’ during his 2004-2009 parliamentary tenure, but they were not successful.

Sunil Shetty befriended him and gave his role to Govinda.

When Govinda was returning to films after becoming disillusioned with politics, Sunil approached Shetty to ask for work. Actually, Sunil Shetty was producing the film ‘Bhagambhaag’. He himself was going to play the character of ‘Babla’ in this film. When Govinda came to know that Sunil Shetty was producing the film, he went to Sunil Shetty and asked him to give him work in this film because he was in dire need of work.

Sunil Shetty gave his role to Govinda in Yaari-Dosti. Akshay Kumar and Govinda were seen for the first time in this film. Govinda came into limelight with the film ‘Bhagambhaag’ directed by Priyadarshan, but after the failure of ‘Salaam-e-Ishq’ and ‘Jahan Jayega Hume Payega’, Govinda’s career once again started faltering. Then Salman Khan’s ‘partner’ was found.

The trio of Salman-Govinda and David Dhawan created a stir again

‘Partner’, released in 2007, proved to be the second highest grossing film of that year. This film was directed by David Dhawan. The trio of Salman-Govinda and David Dhawan created a stir on screen. This film is considered to be the second big comeback of Govinda’s career.

But after this film, Govinda’s films like ‘Honey Hai To Mani Hai’, ‘Chal Chala Chal’, ‘Kill Dil’, ‘Happy Ending’, ‘Aa Gaya Hero’ and ‘Rangeela Raja’ continued to flop. Govinda played the role of villain in the film ‘Kill Dil’ made under the banner of Yash Raj Films. Apart from this, about 15 films of Govinda are ready. Which could not be released.

According to the news published in Nav Bharat Times, Govinda had said in the interview that people from the industry are conspiring with him. People in the industry are not allowing his films to be released. The films that are released are not getting a good number of theaters or screens.

Preparing for comeback for the third time

Govinda’s ‘Rangeela Raja’ was released in 2019. This film was a flop and Govinda had to take a break again. On ‘The Great Indian Kapil Show’, Govinda had announced his comeback with his upcoming films ‘Baye Haath Ka Khel’, ‘Pinky Darling’, ‘Lain Dein’ and ‘Duniyadaari’.

Apart from this, Govinda is working in Salman Khan’s film ‘Battle of Galwan’. However, this has not been officially confirmed yet. There are heated discussions on ‘Partner 2’, but no official announcement has been made yet.
