Indian-origin pilot Dave Fiji died in a helicopter crash a few hours after his wedding in Georgia, America. The helicopter pilot also lost his life in the accident, while the bride Jesni remained injured in the debris for about six hours. This accident happened when the newly married couple left by helicopter for a special farewell after the wedding. A happy day turned into mourning in a few hours. On Friday, Dave Fiji and Jessie were married at ‘The Riviere’ wedding venue in Dawsonville. About 400 guests attended the ceremony. There was a celebratory atmosphere among family and friends. After the marriage, special arrangements were made for a helicopter farewell for both of them. Dave and Jessie Robinson were scheduled to board an R66 helicopter to DeKalb-Peachtree Airport, where they would spend the night in Atlanta. But the helicopter crashed shortly after takeoff. Father said – My son was on the happiest day of his life. Dave’s father George Fiji said, “My son was very happy. I was looking at him and feeling his happiness. He was looking very handsome.” According to George, Dave and Jenny’s friendship happened through church. Both families have ties to church communities in the American states of South Carolina and Georgia. Friendship gradually turned into love and both decided to become life partners. Dave had become a pilot after fulfilling his childhood dream. According to the family, Dave Fiji wanted to become a pilot since childhood. He fulfilled this dream with his hard work and dedication and was later appointed as the First Officer in Delta Air Lines. Dave had a great love for flying and aviation. According to the family, he was a very disciplined and responsible professional pilot. Had already expressed concern about the weather. Before the accident, Dave had also expressed concern about the weather. According to her father, by the time the ceremony was over, fog and rain had increased in the area, reducing visibility to almost zero. George Fiji said, “Dave told the helicopter pilot that we do not fly in such visibility. He clearly said that the conditions were not good for flying.” However, according to the family the helicopter pilot replied that they would fly at a higher altitude and the journey continued. The helicopter crashed in a dense forest. Shortly after takeoff, the helicopter crashed in a dense forest area near Dawsonville. Due to the topography of the area and dense vegetation, it took a long time for rescue teams to locate the crash site. George Fiji said it took several hours for search teams to find the wreckage of the helicopter. Due to this reason the rescue operation could also start late. The bride was trapped in the debris for six hours. According to the family, Jesni remained trapped in the debris of the crashed helicopter for almost six hours. When he regained consciousness, he found himself amidst a broken helicopter. George Fiji told that the incident which Jesni told him was very painful. He said, “Jesney told that when she opened her eyes, Dave was holding his head on her chest. She saw that there was blood on his body. She is a nurse by profession, so she immediately understood that Dave is no longer in this world.” There were injuries on the body, but courage was not broken. Jesni suffered injuries and cuts at many places in the accident, but no bones were broken. According to the family, she is slowly recovering physically, although the shock of losing her husband is very deep. “She is completely devastated, but is undergoing treatment and is recovering,” George said. America’s National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating the accident. The agency has not yet officially confirmed the cause of the accident. Investigators are examining all aspects, including weather conditions, flight path, technical condition of the helicopter and the pilot’s decisions. The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed that three people were aboard the helicopter. The agency’s initial report is likely to come in the next 30 days. ‘God gave the perfect marriage, then everything changed’ Dave Fiji’s parents are originally from Muvattupuzha in Ernakulam district of Kerala. At the same time, Jesni’s family is associated with Alappuzha district of Kerala. Despite his son’s death, George Fiji said his family is coping with the loss with the help of their Christian faith. She said, “God gave us a perfect wedding day. Just a few hours later, everything turned into a tragedy. At a time like this, we have a lot of questions, but we find peace and answers only in God.”
