CJ Roy, Chairman of Confident Group. Income Tax Department raid was going on at his office and house for three days.
Confident Group Chairman CJ Roy committed suicide by shooting himself at the company’s office near Richmond Circle in central Bengaluru on Friday.
According to the police, the incident occurred at around 3.15 pm. He confirmed that the Income Tax (IT) department was searching for the last three days. After the suicide, the Income Tax officer left the spot.
Roy’s net worth is Rs 9 thousand crores. Roy, originally from Kerala, had his business spread across Karnataka and Dubai. Confident Group is a real estate developer in Kerala and Karnataka.
Police said that at present, no IT officers were present at the spot. Bengaluru Police will collect necessary information from the IT department as part of the investigation.
The Commissioner further informed that C.J. Roy’s family members are currently abroad and are coming to Bengaluru.
Police said- investigation will also be done in the case of abetment of suicide
Police are also evaluating the legal classification of the case, including whether it should be registered as unnatural death or sections related to abetment of suicide should be invoked.
The commissioner confirmed that a director of Confident Group has already filed a complaint.
Investigators are collecting evidence from the office premises as part of the ongoing investigation, and more clarity is expected after examining records and statements.
