Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha being attacked across the country by making votes theft an issue, Rahul Gandhi again took a dig at the Election Commission. And tried to prove how he tried to harm their party by deleting the names of Congress voters in Karnataka’s Aland Assembly elections. He also alleged that by hacking the system of the Election Commission, many people were removed from the voter list together with the software. And about this, Karnataka CID asked the Election Commission to cooperate in the investigation, so it did not respond.
Let us understand what is the process of removing/deleting someone’s name from the voter list, and can this system be hacked?
When can a name be cut from the voter list- The name is removed from the voter list only when the person has died, he has shifted elsewhere, now does not live on that address, has been disqualified to vote according to any law, or his name has been mistaken twice.
How and who can apply to delete names from voter list- Form-7 has to be filled to remove the name. This form can be filled with online NVSP portal or voter helpline app. If no one wants to do online, then by printing the form, the Election Registration can submit the officer (ERO) or the Assistant Officer (AERO).
How to investigate before deleting the name? After getting the form, the booth level officer (blo) goes home and examines. If the matter is about death, information is taken from family or neighbors. Even if it is to be shifted, it is known that the person does not live there anymore.
There is scope to notice and answer- Before cutting the name, the Election Officers send a notice to the concerned voter or family. It is asked why the name should not be removed. If a person wants to present his side, then he is given a chance.
How to take the final decision to delete the name of the voter- After hearing all the investigation and reply, the Election Officer passes the order. If the reason is found to be correct, the name is removed. If the reason turns out to be wrong, the name remains in the list.
The right to appeal remains even after deleting the name from the voter list If someone’s name is incorrectly cut off, he can appeal within 15 days. This appeal is made with the District Election Officer (DEO) or the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO). If needed, the High Court can also be visited.
Is it possible to delete votes with the help of an external software?
Security and Authentication- There are processes like mobile OTP, email verification or Aadhaar linking for every application on the NVSP portal. No external software can bypass these security layers.
Legal obligatory- election Commission Only consider its official website and app (NVSP, Voter Helpline, CEO State Websites). The data inserted from an external tool will not be considered valid.
Capcha and Data Protection- The NVSP portal consists of captcha verification and data encryption. These systems are designed to protect them from bot or auto-filled software.
Election Commission said, no outsider can delete votes
Rahul Gandhi The Election Commission has fought the allegations in its own way. The Commission has said in the first line of its tweet that the name of a voter cannot be deleted by any common person. Like Rahul Gandhi is saying. In the 2023 election, there were some such efforts in the 2023 election, whose FIR itself was lodged by the Election Commission. And the most interesting fact is that the BJP won in 2018 in the Aland Assembly, which lost to the Congress in 2023.
Rahul Gandhi’s allegations, whose answers are yet to come from the Election Commission
-The matter of deleting the names of voters in the assembly assembly is so clean, so why did the Election Commission not solve the doubt of Karnataka CID? Rahul Gandhi is saying that the Karnataka CID has written a letter to the Election Commission in the case of Aland, that he should be told that what was the IP address of the computer deleting the name, and the mobile numbers should be shared, which should be shared on which OTP was sent to delete the name.
During the press conference, Rahul Gandhi narrated the statements of some residents of the Aland Assembly, who said that their names were misused and deleted the names of the voters. Does the Election Commission believe that these people are lying?
However, Rahul Gandhi does not have any claim that those whose names have been deleted are Congress voters. Because, like America, voters in India are not registered in the name of any party.
