Pinarayi Vijayan has been the CM of Kerala from 2016 to 2026.
Kerala High Court on Friday ordered registration of FIR against former Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in the corruption case.
In this case, Pinarayi Vijayan and his daughter T Veena are accused of corruption. The case pertains to financial transactions between Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited (CMRL) and Veena’s company Exalogic Solutions Private Limited.
A petition was filed in the court demanding an FIR in this case, after which Justice A. Badruddin took this decision.
Actually, this case was being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and it had also shared its information with the Kerala Police. Even after this, instead of registering an FIR, the state police formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT).

Arguments of ED and state government
During the hearing in the High Court, ED supported the demand for registering an FIR. ED lawyer Jaishankar V Nair said that during the investigation, many such transactions have come to light, which need to be investigated by the state police or any competent agency.
Advocate General Jaju Babu, appearing for the state, raised initial objection on the maintainability of the petition. He said that the petitioner has described it as a matter of public interest, but it has been filed as a private writ petition.
The Advocate General also said that even after receiving information from ED, the state agency has the right to investigate the material independently.
According to him, the state agency can decide whether the material revealed reveals any crime or not. Only after this will the need to register an FIR be decided.

The matter is 7 years old
The case pertains to money laundering related to the company of Vijayan’s daughter T Veena. Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited (CMRL) gave ₹ 1.72 crore as monthly payment to Veena’s ‘Exalogic Solutions’ in the year 2018-19, but Exalogic Solutions did not provide any service in return.
ED believes that this transaction is suspicious. Earlier the Income Tax Department had also raised questions regarding this payment made between CMRL and Exalogic. Later, on this basis, ED has started investigation into money laundering.
A day earlier, on Tuesday, the Kerala High Court rejected CMRL’s petition in the same case, in which CMRL had demanded cancellation of the ED investigation. ED had filed a PMLA case to investigate the allegations in 2024.
The issue has been one of the most politically sensitive controversies facing the Vijayan government. Apart from the ED investigation, the case is also being investigated by the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO).
