Vacant posts in the central government have almost doubled in the last decade. In 2015, 4.21 lakh posts were vacant, which will increase to 8.24 lakh in 2024. That is, appointments were made, but the sanctioned posts increased much faster than that. In this situation, the vacancies increased from 58,774 to 1,10,885. Government departments use GeM (Government e-Market Place) platform for outsourcing of employees on vacant posts. On this, a record 10 lakh employees were outsourced last year. According to experts, many departments and ministries are outsourcing work directly to companies instead of hiring employees on contract. Half the posts are vacant in Commerce Department, maximum 2.42 lakh posts are vacant in Defense (Civilian). The vacancy rate against sanctioned posts also increased from 31.9% to 43.4%.
