Ranveer will file an unconditional apology affidavit in the Karnataka High Court on April 10 in the matter of mimicking the Daiva scene of the film ‘Kantara’. This step has been taken by the actor after an FIR was registered for hurting the sentiments of the Kannada community. During the hearing in the court, Ranveer Singh’s lawyer has voluntarily made a proposal. He said that the actor himself is ready to go to Chamundi Temple in Mysore and personally apologize. Earlier in February, the High Court had given a big relief to Ranveer and directed not to take action against him. The controversy started during the Goa Film Festival (IFFI) in November last year. Where Ranveer copied Rishabh Shetty’s iconic Daiva scene. After this, an FIR was registered against him for hurting the sentiments of the Kannada community. Instagram’s apology is just a show, however, complainant and advocate Prashant Methal has called Ranveer’s apology a ‘show’. He argued that till now the actor had only apologized by writing a post on Instagram, which does not seem to be from the heart. Methal says that apologizing on Instagram and coming to the court or speaking in person is a different thing. After mimicry, Ranveer Singh became a part of the International Film Festival of India in Goa on 28 November 2025. During this, on the stage he made fun of Chavundi (Chamunda) Devi shown in the film Kantara. Ranveer Singh told the film’s director and actor Rishabh Shetty, ‘Rishabh, I saw it (Kantara) in the theatre. That was an outstanding performance, especially when the female ghost comes into your body. That performance, that one shot, was outstanding. Ranveer Singh further said, ‘Have you seen Kantara? When that shot comes’. Further, Ranveer Singh himself made fun of that character by mimicking it. Ranveer further said, ‘Is there anyone here who wants to see me in Kantara 3, they should tell this man.’ Another video of Ranveer Singh was revealed from the film festival, in which even after coming off the stage, he was seen mimicking Chavundi Devi in front of Rishabh Shetty, although Rishabh Shetty was seen stopping him by continuously pointing. At the same time, the actor was heavily criticized after the video went viral on social media. Ranveer had apologized regarding the matter. Ranveer Singh had publicly apologized regarding the matter. Ranveer had written on his Instagram account – My intention was to highlight Rishabh’s brilliant performance in the film (Kantara). Being an actor, I know how much hard work goes into pulling off that particular scene the way he did and I respect him immensely for that. I have always had deep respect for every culture, tradition and faith of our country. If anything I said has hurt anyone’s sentiments, I sincerely apologize.
