In Odisha, Congress has expelled three MLAs from the party for cross-voting in the Rajya Sabha elections. In Haryana, the party is preparing to give notice to five MLAs.
Meanwhile, Haryana Congress’s working state president Ram Kishan Gurjar has left the party. His wife and Narayangarh MLA Shaili Chaudhary may also resign from the party.
In Odisha, Congress has expelled Ramesh Jena, Dashrathi Gomango and Sophia Firdous from the party. These three MLAs had voted in favor of BJP-backed independent candidate Dilip Rai in the Rajya Sabha elections. Due to cross voting, the joint candidate of Congress and BJD had to face defeat.
Actually, a total of 8 Congress MLAs had cross-voted in both the states. In the elections held on 11 March, 9 seats went to NDA’s account. In the elections for 37 Rajya Sabha seats in 10 states, candidates for 26 were already elected unopposed.

Haryana: One seat each to BJP-Congress, Congress planning to give notice to 5 MLAs who cross-voted
The results for 2 Rajya Sabha seats in Haryana were released at 1 am, about 9 hours after voting. BJP’s Sanjay Bhatia and Congress’s Karmaveer Boudh have won. BJP-backed independent candidate Satish Nandal had to face defeat. There were 90 MLAs voting in the election, out of which 2 MLAs from the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) did not cast their votes. 4 votes of Congress and 1 vote of BJP were cancelled, due to which 83 votes were considered valid.
BJP had 48 votes. One vote was cancelled. Bhatia got 39 and Nandal got 8 votes in the first priority. Congress had 37 MLAs. 4 votes were cancelled. 5 cross voted. In this situation, 28 votes were left.
Sanjay Bhatia got 27.66 first priority votes. Independent Nandal got 27.34 votes, while Congress’s Karmaveer Boudh got 28 votes. Thus, Nandal lost to Buddh by a margin of only 0.66 votes, i.e. less than one vote.
Now the Congress party is preparing to give notice to 5 MLAs who did cross voting. Earlier, acting state president Ramkishan Gurjar has left the party. According to media reports, his MLA wife Shaili Chaudhary may also leave the party.
Odisha: BJP wins 3 seats, BJD wins one seat; Congress expelled three MLAs from the party
BJP’s Manmohan Samal, Sujit Kumar and NDA-backed independent candidate Dilip Ray won in Disha. Santrupta Mishra of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) won the fourth seat. BJD’s Datteshwar Hota had to face defeat.
The party has suspended Ramesh Jena, Dashrathi Gomango and Sophia Firdous for cross voting. Besides, the process of canceling his assembly membership has also been started.
State Congress President Bhakta Charan Das said that such a step was not expected from the three MLAs. A request has been made to the Assembly Speaker to take action against these MLAs under the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution, so that they can be disqualified.
State Congress media cell president Arbind Das said that this action has been taken after reviewing the action of the MLAs. The party has considered this as indiscipline and against the interests of the party.
