Now, 25 years after the release of the film, Anil Kapoor may soon bring its sequel. He has recently purchased the rights of the film from the film’s producer A.M.Ratnam.
In a recent Bollywood Hungama report, quoting a source, it has been said that producer Deepak Mukut, who had made hit films like Sanam Teri Kasam, had the rights of the 2001 film Nayak. But recently Anil Kapoor has bought the rights of the film Nayak from him.
The report further states that the film is very close to hero Anil Kapoor’s heart, hence he wants to keep its rights with himself. He also wants to make a sequel of this film. He is well aware of how much love this film has received from the audience over the years and believes that the protagonist’s subject has the potential for a sequel.

The film Nayak was a hit film of the year 2001, in which Anil Kapoor, Rani Mukherjee, Pooja Batra, Amrish Puri, Paresh Rawal were in important roles. The film was directed by Shankar. This was the Hindi remake of Shankar’s South film Madhuvalan (1999). Nayak is the only Hindi film directed by director Shankar. Apart from this, he has made superhit films like Shivaji-The Boss, I, Robot 2.0.
There have been reports of a sequel to Nayak since 2013.
Even before this, news of Nayak’s sequel has been in the headlines. In the year 2013, there were reports that Anil Kapoor is doing a sequel to Nayak, which will be titled Nayak Returns. However, no official announcement was made by the makers. After this, this sequel was in discussion in the year 2017 also. Then there were reports that V.Vijayendra Prasad is preparing the screenplay of the film and its post production has been started in 2017 itself, although the shooting of the film has not started.
