Former Indian cricketer and veteran commentator Laxman Sivaramakrishnan has left the BCCI commentary panel alleging apartheid. Sivaramakrishnan wrote on social media platform

The 60-year-old former cricketer said that in his 23-year long career, he was not used for important occasions like toss and presentation, due to which he was disappointed. The former leg spinner wrote that new commentators kept getting opportunities, while he was ignored for a long time.

Sivaramakrishnan also said that there is a big story related to TV production behind his retirement, which will be revealed soon. When a user raised the issue of apartheid, he justified it, which has further deepened the controversy.

Wrote- I did not get a chance in the toss and prize distribution Sivaramakrishnan said, ‘For the last 23 years I have not been sent for the toss and prize distribution ceremony. Racism exposed on user’s question When a user asked if his skin color was an issue, Sivaramakrishnan replied, ‘You are right. Apartheid.’ Sivaramakrishnan was known for openly expressing his views inside the commentary box for more than two decades.

Commentary career lasting more than 20 years

Sivaramakrishnan had been doing commentary since 2000 and was known for his outspoken opinions. He has also been a player representative in the ICC Cricket Committee.

  • Played 9 Tests and 16 ODIs for India from 1983 to 1986. In 1984, he came into limelight by taking 12 wickets in the match against England.
  • Played an important role in the World Championship held in Australia in 1985. Contributed to the team’s victory by bowling against Pakistan in the final.

Who is Sivaramakrishnan? In the early 1980s, the 17-year-old created a stir with his powerful leg-spin balls, googlies and top spin. He was part of the Indian ODI team that won the Cricket World Championship held in Australia in 1985.

In 1997-98, when the Australian team came on India tour. Then Sachin Tendulkar called Sivaramakrishnan to deal with the challenge of Shane Warne. Sivaramakrishnan, even though his cricket career did not last long, after this he made his own identity as a commentator.
