Famous Kannada film actor Mysore Srikanthaiah Umesh died in a hospital in Bengaluru on Sunday. His age was 80 years. Umesh was suffering from stage-4 liver cancer for some time. Family members were with him in his last moments. He worked in more than 350 films in his film career.
JDS leader and Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy expressed grief over his demise. He said,

Umesh used to immerse people in a sea of laughter with his funny acting. Many of his films like Guru Shishyaru, Hallu Jenu and Apoorva Sangam are memorable in Kannada cinema.


Theater career started at the age of four
Born on 24 April 1945 in Mysore, Umesh started his career at the age of just four years. He worked with the famous playwright Master K. Worked in Hirannayya’s theater group. Later he joined Gubbi Veeranna’s theater troupe.
Umesh worked in films for more than 50 years. He started his film career in 1960 with B.R. Panthulu’s film was shot from Makkala state. In this film, he won the hearts of audiences of all ages with his witty style and brilliant dialogue delivery.
He got recognition again in 1977 with the film Katha Sangam and then he did not look back. He worked in many films like Nagara Hole (1978), Guru Shishyaru (1981), Anupama (1981), Kamna Billu (1983) and Venkata in Sankat (2007).

Worked with legends like Rajkumar and Rajinikanth
Umesh worked with almost all the big artists of his time including names like Rajkumar, Vishnuvardhan, Ambareesh, Shankar Nag, Anand Nag, Saroja Devi, and Bharti. He also appeared in films with Tamil actors Sivaji Ganesan and Rajinikanth.
He received the Karnataka State Award in 1975 and the Karnataka Natak Akademi Award in 2013.
This year his health suddenly deteriorated. In October, he fell at home, which was initially thought to be a minor injury, but tests revealed that he was suffering from late stage liver cancer. According to doctors, the cancer had spread to other parts of the body, so surgery was not possible.
Despite illness, Umesh’s courage never broke. In a recent video that went viral, he was seen singing and laughing even while on the bed.
Actress Girija Lokesh told that she had gone to meet him three days ago. He said, “Umesh ji was joking even in pain and was smiling like always.”
His last film ‘Kuladalli Keeleyudo’ had an important role. This year he also worked with Kamal Sridevi.
