Heatwave continues in more than half the states of the country. The mercury remained between 40°C to 45°C in many cities of Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra.
Jharsuguda in Odisha was the hottest city in the country on Wednesday with a temperature of 44.6°C. In view of the heatwave, the Odisha government has stopped the census process in the afternoon.
That means field staff will no longer do census work between 11 am to 3 pm. It has been decided to keep all schools closed till 23rd April in Boudh and Mayurbhanj districts.
Here, water bell system will be implemented in Delhi schools. A bell will be rung every 45 to 60 minutes to remind students to drink water and prevent dehydration.

No relief from heatwave this week
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday said heatwave conditions may persist over most parts of northwest, central and eastern India for the next 4 to 5 days.
There is a possibility of heat wave in some areas of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi on 24 and 25 April. There will be heatwave conditions in Uttar Pradesh between April 25 and Madhya Pradesh between April 26.
There is a possibility of heatwave in Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh from 24 to 27 April, while in Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand on 23 April. Nights may also remain hot in Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Odisha and Goa.

24 April:
- There will be hot and humid weather in Gujarat, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Light rain may occur in parts of Telangana, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
- There is a possibility of lightning in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.
25 April:
- There is a possibility of heat wave in some areas of Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra.
- Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Gujarat, Odisha and Tamil Nadu may experience hot and humid weather.
