Cyclonic storm ‘Dana’, which arose from the Bay of Bengal, has started making landfall on the coast of Odisha. According to IMD, the storm has moved towards north-northwest at a speed of 15 km per hour in the last six hours.

It reached the coast between Bhitarkanika in Kendrapara district and Dhamra in Bhadrak district with winds reaching around 110 kmph. Its landfall process will last for 5 hours and it will pass through the northern part of Odisha at a speed of 120 km per hour. This will affect West Bengal also.

Kolkata’s Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Airport has been closed from 6 pm on Thursday to 9 am on Friday. Meanwhile, in view of the threat of Dana, the West Bengal government has so far evacuated 1,59,837 people from the affected areas. Of these, 83,537 people have been shifted to relief camps.

Due to the effect of ‘Dana’, it is raining on the Odisha coast. At some places including Bhadrak, Kendrapara, there may be more than 30 cm i.e. 12 inches (one foot) of rain. In the remaining coastal areas, there is a possibility of rain up to 20 cm. Odisha 10 lakh people have been shifted in 14 districts of Uttar Pradesh.

According to the map released by the Meteorological Department, the cyclone will hit the coast of Odisha, due to which there will be heavy rain in West Bengal also.

300 flights canceled at two airports in 16 hours, 552 trains canceled Around 300 flights will be canceled for 16 hours from Thursday 5 pm to October 25 at 9 am at Bhubaneswar and Kolkata airports.

Here South East Railway 150, East Coast Railway has canceled 198 trains, Eastern Railway has canceled 190 trains and South East Central Railway has canceled 14 trains. Total 552 trains have been cancelled.

All temporary tents have been removed from the Jagannath Temple complex in Puri. Sandbags have been placed on asbestos roofs. So that it doesn’t fly away. Whereas Konark temple has been closed for two days.

288 teams of NDRF and fire brigade deployed in Odisha

Odisha has deployed 288 teams of National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF), Odisha Disaster Relief Force (ODRF) and fire brigade.

Schools and colleges in 14 districts affected by the storm will remain closed till October 25. Along with all the tourism parks in these districts, the Odisha High Court has also been closed till October 25. Leaves of government employees have been cancelled.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has reviewed the preparations to deal with the storm by holding a high level meeting.

Impact of Cyclone ‘Dana’ in 7 states

1. Odisha Bearing: Odisha There is a possibility of widespread impact of the storm in 14 out of 30 coastal districts. IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in Angul, Nayagarh, Baleshwar, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Kendujhar, Jajpur, Cuttack and Dhenkanal, Khurda, Ganjam and Puri districts from October 24 to 26.

Preparation: 20 teams of Odisha NDRF, 51 teams of Odisha Disaster Rapid Force (ODRF) and 178 teams of fire brigade have been deployed. 6 thousand relief camps have been set up. Hotel booking has been stopped for the next four days.

2. West Bengal Bearing: Very heavy rains are expected in East Medinipur, West Medinipur, South 24 Parganas and North 24 Parganas, while heavy rains may occur in Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly and Jhargram.

Preparation: Schools have been closed from October 23 to 26 in eight districts of West Bengal – South 24 Parganas, North 24 Parganas, Purba Medinipur, West Medinipur, Jhargram, Bankura, Hooghly, Howrah and Kolkata. 85 relief teams have been deployed in the state.

3. Andhra Pradesh Bearing: Winds at a speed of 30 to 50 km per hour are expected along with heavy rain in Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh.

Preparation: in Andhra Pradesh 9 teams of NDRF have been deployed.

4. Jharkhand

Effect: There may be rain in East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, Simdega, Seraikela-Kharsawan, Deoghar, Dhanbad, Dumka, Giridih, Godda, Jamtara.

Preparation: in Jharkhand 9 teams of NDRF have been deployed.

5.Chhattisgarh

Effect: The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for 8 districts today. There may be isolated showers in the next three days from 25th to 27th October. On October 25 and 26, winds can blow at a speed of 40 km per hour.

Preparation: in Chhattisgarh A team of NDRF has been deployed.

6. Bihar: Its effect will be visible in Bhagalpur, Banka, Jamui, Munger, Sheikhpura, Nalanda, Jehanabad, Lakhisarai, Nawada, Gaya, Katihar, Purnia, Kishanganj. Wind will blow at a speed of 20 to 40 kilometers per hour in many districts.

7. Tamil Nadu: IMD has issued a warning of heavy rain for five days in Tamil Nadu in South India and some states of Eastern India.

Indian Navy personnel have also been deployed to deal with the storm.

On Tuesday night, five teams of 7th battalion of NDRF reached Bhubaneswar Airport in Odisha.

The Indian Air Force airlifted the NDRF team, 150 soldiers and relief material to Bhubaneswar in Odisha.

An IL76 and AN32 aircraft were brought to Bhubaneswar from Bathinda in Punjab. These planes reached here on Wednesday morning.

Relief material was also brought by Indian Air Force aircraft.

This tourist parking space of Puri remained vacant the whole day on Tuesday.

Saudi Arabia gave the name ‘Dana’, it means generosity Saudi Arabia has given the name ‘Dana’ to the storm. It means generosity. If the speed of a storm is more than 62 km per hour then it becomes necessary to give it a special name. If this storm wind reaches or exceeds 137 km per hour, then it is called a cyclonic storm.
