Mrs. Deshpande bills itself as a psychological thriller, which starts with the promise of suspense and tension. The serial murders happening in Mumbai and their connection to a 25-year-old case take the story between the past and present.

Story

The center of the story is Mrs. Deshpande, who has been convicted of the same old murders and is currently lodged in the Central Jail of Hyderabad. Believing the existing murders to be copycat crimes, the police involve him in the investigation. The intentions of Mrs. Deshpande, who appears to be cooperative from outside, remain under suspicion all the time.

The story tries to show his childhood, mental imbalance and criminal mentality, but the screenplay fails to give concrete shape to these aspects. Many twists seem predictable and the suspense is broken again and again.

acting

Madhuri Dixit’s character represents a different phase of her career. She tries to create awe through simplicity and cold expressions, but the weakness of the writing limits her acting.

Siddharth Chandekar seems honest as the young police officer, but his character is not given enough depth. Priyanshu Chatterjee gives a balanced performance as an experienced officer, but his role also gets buried due to the weakness of the script.

Kavin Dave shows potential in his strange and mysterious character, but his track seems incomplete. The rest of the supporting cast tries to carry the burden of the story, but they do not get a chance to become memorable.

Direction and technical aspects

The lack of clarity and tightness in direction is clearly visible. Where the story should have been fast and sharp, many scenes seem stretched. Cinematography and location selection help in creating the atmosphere, but poor editing, uneven pacing and loose script muffles this goodness. Logical lapses at many places raise questions about the credibility of the story.

disadvantages and some advantages

The biggest drawback is its slow pace, flat dialogues and weak character-building. The suspense has been unnecessarily drawn out. On the positive side, the basic idea of the series is new and the flashback portions leave a relatively greater impact, but they also feel incomplete.

music

The background music tries to create atmosphere, but fails to evoke fear and thrill. The music goes with the story, but is not memorable.

Final Verdict

Mrs. Deshpande is a web series which had a lot of potential, but weak writing and scattered direction made it ordinary. Despite the presence of Madhuri Dixit and the rest of the cast, the show does not live up to the standards of a thriller.
