Hindi film Homebound was released in theaters worldwide on 26 September 2025.
The Film Federation of India (FFI) will today announce India’s official entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the 2027 Academy Awards (Oscars). This event will take place at 2:30 pm at The Club, Mumbai. Let us tell you that the 99th edition of the Oscars will be held on March 14, 2027 at the Dolby Theater in the Hollywood area of Los Angeles city of America.
Last year, the film Homebound was sent by India for the Oscars. The film starred Ishaan Khattar and Vishal Jethwa in lead roles.
A total of 24 films from different languages were considered for India’s Oscar entry in 2025. Homebound was selected among these. At that time, selection committee chairperson N Chandra had said that this decision was very difficult.
N Chandra had said, “These were films which touched people’s lives.” Comparing the selection committee to coaches, he said that they were not looking for judges but for players who had made their mark.
‘Homebound’ was directed by Neeraj Ghaywan
Directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, Homebound was based on Basharat Peer’s 2020 New York Times article ‘Taking Amrit Home’. The Hindi film was also screened at prestigious film festivals like Cannes and Toronto.
Apart from ‘Homebound’, Neeraj Ghaywan has directed projects like ‘Masaan’, ‘Gili Puchchi’ and ‘Juice’.
The story of the film is about two childhood friends living in a small village in North India. Both want to get such a police job, which can give them the dignity which they have not got for a long time.
‘Homebound’, produced by Karan Johar and Adar Poonawala’s Dharma Productions, managed to make it to the long list of Oscars (Top 15 films), but could not make it to the final top-5 nominations.
‘One Battle After Another’ won 6 awards including Best Film
In the 98th Oscar Awards (2026), ‘One Battle After Another’ won maximum 6 awards including Best Film. Michael B. for ‘Sinners’ Jordan was chosen Best Actor and Jessie Buckley was chosen Best Actress for ‘Hamnet’. ‘Sinners’ received the maximum 16 nominations, but the film won 4 awards.
