Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei voted on June 28.
Presidential elections will be held in Iran today. Earlier, in the presidential elections held on Friday, no candidate got majority. In Iran, it is necessary to get 50% votes to become President.
In last week’s election, Pazshkian received 42.5% of the votes, while Saeed Jalili received 38.8%. So now the competition is between these two candidates who have received the most votes.

Masood Pazshkian got the most votes
Last week, the Election Commission spokesperson Mohsen Islami had said that 2 crore 45 lakh votes were cast in the elections. Masood Pazshkian got the highest number of votes, 1 crore 4 lakh. Saeed Jalili was in second place with 94 lakh votes.
Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf came third with 3.3 million votes, while Mustafa Pourmohammadi, who came last, received 260,000 votes.

The issue of shadow hijab
This is the first time in this election that new issues like corruption, sanctions by western countries, freedom of the press and stopping brain drain are dominating the elections.
The most surprising election issue is the hijab law. This has been a big issue on the minds of many voters in 2022 due to the anti-hijab movement in Iran and its subsequent suppression by the government.
The hijab has long been a symbol of religious identity, but in Iran it has also been a political weapon. Ever since the hijab law was implemented in Iran after the Islamic Revolution in 1979, women have protested against it in various ways. More than half of Iran’s 61 million voters are women.
