Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will hold a nationwide protest on August 5 on the completion of one year of the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. The activists have warned the government of protests and demanded the immediate release of Imran.

PTI leader Asad Qaiser said that the final decision about the protest will be taken in the party meeting. However, they are planning to hold big demonstrations across the country on August 5. There will be rallies and big demonstrations across the country. Imran was illegally arrested in a fabricated case.

Imran Khan was arrested from his house in Lahore on August 5 last year. The Election Commission had filed a case against him for concealing the sale of gifts received from the government treasury. He was convicted in the Toshakhana case. He has been in jail for the last one year.

Imran was arrested again in a new Toshakhana case
Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi were arrested from jail on the night of 13 July. The National Accountability (NAB) team had reached Adiala Jail to arrest them in a new case related to Toshakhana.

On the same day, both of them were acquitted by the Islamabad court in the fake marriage case. The court had said that they should be released immediately. According to Pakistani media house Geo News, immediately after the court’s order, two teams of NAB reached Adiala Jail to arrest the former Prime Minister and Bushra.

Imran has been in Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi for 350 days in 3 different cases. The local court in Islamabad convicted him in another case of Toshakhana on August 5, 2023. After this, he was arrested from his house in Zaman Park, Islamabad and sent to jail. Later he was convicted in 2 more cases. He has been released in all three cases.

Khan has more than 100 cases against him
Khan’s release already did not seem possible. More than 100 cases are registered against him. According to the English newspaper Dawn, if Imran comes out of jail, he will raise the demand for re-election in Pakistan.

Imran’s Tehreek-e-Insaf party could not officially participate in the general elections held this year. In a post on Imran Khan’s X (Twitter) account on July 5, the general elections held on February 8 this year were called fake. In such a situation, the Shahbaz government or the army would not want Khan to be released at any cost.

Imran was released in all the three cases in which he was convicted

Case- 1 Bushra Bibi’s ex-husband, Khawar Farid Maneka, had accused Bushra and Imran of marrying in an un-Islamic manner. Khan married her before the completion of the Iddat period after Bushra’s divorce.

Bushra and Imran were convicted in this case on 3 February. They were sentenced to 7 years of imprisonment and fined 5 lakh Pakistani rupees. They were released in this case today.

Case-2 Earlier, on June 3, the Islamabad High Court acquitted Imran Khan in the Cipher Case (secret letter theft) due to lack of evidence. He was sentenced to 10 years by a special court in Islamabad. Imran Khan was taken into custody on 29 August 2023 in the Cipher Gate scandal.

Case-3 Khan was released in the Toshakhana case on April 1. His 14-year sentence was quashed.

Won the most seats even while being in jail
General elections were held in Pakistan on 8 February. Before this, Khan was convicted in 3 cases one after the other. Due to this, he could not participate in the elections. Before the elections, his party’s election symbol was taken away. All the party leaders contested the elections independently. Despite this, supporters of Khan’s party PTI got 93 seats out of 342 seats in the National Assembly of Pakistan.

Know about Cipher and Toshakhana case…
Cipher Case-
In the charge sheet of this case, it was said that the former Prime Minister had a secret letter i.e. cipher. Khan has been accused of misusing the confidential information of the country.

This cipher was sent to the Foreign Ministry by Pakistani Ambassador to the US Asad Majeed Khan in March last year. Khan kept it with him on the pretext of reading it and later said that the letter was lost. However, he has openly waved the cipher in many rallies.

Toshakhana Case- Imran was accused of selling the gifts he received from various countries during his tenure. Imran had told the Election Commission that he had bought all these gifts from the Toshakhana for Rs 2.15 crore and got Rs 5.8 crore after selling them. Later it was revealed that this amount was more than Rs 20 crore.
