There has been an explosion in a mosque during Friday prayers in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia. At least 54 people were injured in this accident. He has been admitted to the hospital.
The blast took place at a mosque inside a school in the Kelapa Gading area of North Jakarta. After the incident, city police chief Asep Edi Suheri said that the police is investigating the cause of the blast.
In the initial investigation, the police have found some suspicious items near the incident site. These include parts of a hand-made explosive device (IED), a remote control, and guns such as airsoft and revolvers.
Police have recovered body vest, revolver and a gun at the spot.
Policemen have been deployed in the area after the blast in the mosque on the school campus.
Security personnel completely surrounded the area around the blast and a strict investigation is being conducted.
There was an explosion while offering namaz
People present at the spot said that the first blast took place from the back side of the main hall of the mosque, due to which the people offering Namaz got scared and started running to save their lives. Budi Laksono, a mathematics teacher who was inside the mosque at the time of the blast, said,
The Khutba (speech) had just begun when there was a massive explosion. The smoke spread within a few seconds. The students ran outside. Someone was crying, someone fell down, everyone got scared.
Most of the injured suffered injuries from the shock of glass fragments and loud noise. All the injured have been admitted to the clinic in Kelapa Gading district. Immediately after the incident, naval personnel and Jakarta police cordoned off the area and a bomb disposal squad searched the entire area.
