In Punjab, the Border Security Force (BSF) is preparing to increase vigilance with the aim of preventing drug, ammunition smuggling and infiltration. After speculations of infiltration of terrorists from Pathankot area in the past, BSF can now increase the number of its soldiers in sensitive areas.

Just like soldiers patrol on camels on Rajasthan-Pakistan border, horse mounted soldiers are being prepared for Punjab border. For this, a unit of women soldiers is also being given special training. After getting information about infiltration of Pakistani terrorists in Pathankot, more soldiers were deployed in Gurdaspur sector (from Ajnala of Amritsar to Pathankot) so that infiltration could be stopped.

20 battalions protect 500 km area
BSF has a border of more than 500 km in Punjab. At present, there are about 20 battalions of BSF which are active in Punjab. Out of these, 18 are deployed on the border, while the remaining 2 are deployed as per the need at Attari Integrated Check Post in Amritsar and Kartarpur Corridor Dera Baba Nanak in Gurdaspur district.
Demand for battalion to keep an eye on drone movement
A senior BSF officer says that a demand has been sent to the Center to increase a battalion of BSF to keep an eye on drone movement on the Punjab border. Drone movement has increased significantly in the border districts of Amritsar and Tarn Taran since the year 2019. In view of this, the Union Home Ministry has been asked to consider this demand.
According to Punjab and Delhi officials, more soldiers are to be deployed to effectively guard the river areas on the Punjab border. 48 bridges are being constructed on the Ravi and Sutlej rivers on the Punjab border, of which 25 have been completed.
Small drones become a matter of concern
Former Governor of the state Banwari Lal Purohit, who recently visited Punjab, had also expressed concern over drone movement. He also indicated that vigilance is being increased on the border. At the same time, soon the latest technologies will also be used so that drone movement can be monitored.
Inspector General of BSF’s Punjab Frontier, Atul Fuljale, had expressed concern over the movement of small drones in a conversation with the media recently. He said that these drones are successful in smuggling even during the day. The reason for this is that they fly at high altitude and do not make any noise.
