On Sunday, near Tachila-Bemar between Rishikesh and Chamba, the brakes of the tourist bus carrying the shooting team of ‘Ashram 4’ suddenly failed. The bus was from Jaipur, Rajasthan and there were about 20 members of the shooting crew in it. There was chaos in the bus due to brake failure on the slope, but due to the wisdom of the driver Shahid Ali, a major accident was averted. Stopped the bus by landing it in a drain. After brake failure, the driver controlled the bus instead of panicking. He took the bus down into the roadside drain and slowly stopped it safely. This decision of the driver did not lead to the bus overturning or colliding with another vehicle. Everyone got out safely. After the bus stopped, all the people on board were taken out safely. It is a matter of relief that no member was injured in the accident. Later the shooting team members were sent to their destination in other vehicles. The shooting crew appreciated the wisdom and timely decision taken by driver Shahid Ali. Preventing accidents on hilly roads is a challenge. Road accidents on hilly roads in Uttarakhand have become a matter of constant concern. To prevent accidents, enforcement campaigns are conducted by the transport and police departments. At the same time, construction agencies are working on improving the condition of roads and fixing black spots. Awareness campaigns regarding road safety are also run by the Education Department. Despite this, the expected reduction in road accidents has not occurred. Along with black spots in hilly areas, factors like technical fault of the vehicle, road condition and slope also increase the risk of accidents.
