On June 12, Boeing 787-8 from Ahmedabad to London crashed shortly after the flight takeoff.

The families of 4 passengers killed in the Ahmedabad plane crash have now filed a case against Honeywell, a company that makes aircraft company in the US and its parts.

According to the BBC report, families allege that the accident occurred due to the negligence of the two companies. The lawsuit has been filed through Texas’s Lanier Law firm.

It said that there was a malfunction in the fuel switch in the aircraft and this became the cause of the accident. Families allege that Boeing and Honeywell already knew about these dangers, but they did not take any action on it.

Air India’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner was flying from Ahmedabad on June 12 and going to Gatvik Airport in London. Shortly after the takeoff, it collided with a medical hostel building. 270 people died in this. It consisted of 60 foreign passengers.

Boeing did not comment

Boeing has not commented on the trial. He only said that the initial report of the AIAB of India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation (AAIB) gives information on the matter.

Honeywell was also contacted by BBC, but no response came from there. Currently, the final investigation report of the accident is expected to come in 2026. In this accident, 229 passengers, 12 crew members and 19 people on the ground were killed in the accident.

The accident occurred due to the shutdown of fuel supply in the engine

Initial investigations have revealed that the supply of fuel to the engines of the aircraft was suddenly closed. Investigators found that the fuel switch had gone from ‘run’ to ‘cut-off’. The pilot turned on them again after 10 seconds, but by then it was late.

Because of this, fuel stopped to the engines and the strength that the aircraft wanted to fly was completely over. Families say it was the flaw of the design.

According to him, the switch could unknowingly stop the supply of fuel and this was the root of this accident. He accused Boeing and Honeywell that they did nothing to fix or stop the problem.

Cockpit’s recording revealed that a pilot asked the other if you have closed the switch? The other replied, no. The report has also revealed that there was a problem in a flight sensor before the flight which was corrected.

Warned to check switch 4 weeks before the accident

The UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) had issued an alert on the fuel control switch of Boeing aircraft four weeks before the Ahmedabad plane crash over the maintenance of Boeing aircraft.

The CAA on 15 May instructed the airlines to follow the instructions of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) of the US. The FAA, in its instructions, described the fuel shutoff valve actors in the aircraft Boeing 737, 757, 767, 777 and 787 aircraft.

The CAA also ordered all the airlines coming to Britain to check these valves, change or repair if needed and do daily investigation. At the same time, the primary report has revealed that the Ahmedabad accident occurred due to the closure of the plane’s fuel switch.

Families accused- Companies did not inform the airlines about the danger

In fact, in 2018, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) advised plane operators not to check the locking system of the fuel switch so that it does not accidentally move.

But this was just a advice, it was not mandatory to implement it. The victim families allege that the companies neither gave adequate warnings to the airlines about this threat nor provided the parts that could solve the problem.

First crashed Boeing 787 plane

According to the BBC, this is the first time a Boeing 787 aircraft has crashed. It is also known as Dreamliner. The model was launched 14 years ago by Boeing. Boeing announced in April that 100 million people had traveled on Dreamliner. During this time Boeing 787 has flown 50 lakh flights.
