US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has arrived in India today on a four-day visit. They reached Kolkata in the morning. This is his first visit to India. His visit is being considered very important in terms of relations between India and America. During his event in Kolkata, Marco Rubio will pay homage at the mausoleum of Mother Teresa, founder of the Missionaries of Charity. Apart from this, he is also likely to visit Victoria Memorial. After this Marco Rubio will reach New Delhi, where he will meet PM Modi. Yesterday US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met Foreign Minister S. Will hold bilateral talks with Jaishankar. During this, both the leaders will discuss ways to further strengthen India-US relations. Marco Rubio will also participate in the Independence Day celebrations organized by the US Embassy in New Delhi. On Monday he will visit Agra and Jaipur. After this, he will attend the meeting of foreign ministers of Quad countries to be held in New Delhi on Tuesday. Quad includes India, Japan, America and Australia. The Quad group includes India, America, Japan and Australia. India is hosting the meeting this time. Australia’s Foreign Minister Penny Wong and Japan’s Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi will also attend this meeting. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, strengthening of the open and free Indo-Pacific region will be discussed in the meeting. Besides, issues like defense cooperation, supply chain, new technology and regional security will also be considered. Experts believe that in view of the increasing influence of China, cooperation between the Quad countries is continuously increasing. Energy security is going to be a big issue in Marco Rubio’s tour. India is currently buying large quantities of cheap crude oil from Russia. At the same time, America wants India to increase the import of American oil and LNG gas. Due to the ongoing tension in the Middle East, energy supply is being affected across the world. In such a situation, India wants to secure its energy supply from many countries so that the impact of any future crisis is reduced. There were differences between India and America in the recent past regarding tariffs and trade restrictions. Now both the countries are trying to strengthen relations again. It is believed that during this visit, there can be discussions on trade agreements, investment and supply chain of important minerals. Discussions are also expected to increase cooperation in semiconductor, battery manufacturing, artificial intelligence and modern technologies. Defense partnership is also continuously increasing. The defense partnership between India and America has become very strong in the last few years. The Indian Army and Air Force are already using many modern defense equipment from America. These include P-8 Poseidon aircraft, MQ-9B SkyGuardian drone, M-777 howitzer cannon and C-17 Globemaster-3 transport aircraft. Now both the countries also want to work together on joint production of defense equipment and new military technologies. Marco Rubio is counted among the leaders in America who take a tough stance against China. He has long been a supporter of a strong strategic partnership with India.
