Pakistan has awarded the US Central Command Chief General Michael Kurilla to Nishan-e-Imtiaz, the country’s largest military honor. This honor was given by President Asif Ali Zardari at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in Islamabad.
General Kurilla was awarded this honor to promote regional peace and strengthen Pakistan-US military relations.
General Kurilla met Pakistan President Zardari and Army Chief Asim Munir. According to media reports, Pakistan is expressing its loyalty for the US through this honor.

Kurillas said- have to have relationships with both Indo-Pak
General Kurilla last month described Pakistan as a strong ally in the fight against terrorism. He then said that America would have to have relations with both Pakistan and India. It is not a binary switch that if we keep a relationship with one, you cannot keep it with the other. We should see the benefits of relationships.
In response, Indian Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal had said that a recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir is a recent example of cross-border terrorism.

Pakistan failed to stop terror funding
Pakistan has taken a move to give military honors to General Kurilla at a time when it is struggling with the economic crisis and pressure from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).
Pakistan was on the gray list of FATF from June 2018 to October 2022. India has demanded FATF to put back in the gray list after a recent Pahalgam attack, accusing Pakistan of failure to stop terror funding.
The US, being the founding member of FATF, plays an important role in monitoring the policies and terror funding of this organization.
Through this honor, Pakistan wants to improve its relationship with America, so that financial help and FATF get relief. Also, this step also shows that Pakistan is not completely dependent on China.
