An American court has acquitted a woman of murder charges after 43 years. According to news agency AP, the woman’s name is Sandra Home. 64-year-old Home was arrested in 1980 for stabbing to death Patricia Jeske, who worked in a Missouri library.

Home’s lawyer said that the police had framed his client in a murder case. She was mentally ill at that time. The police put so much pressure on her that she accepted the charge of murder. Home remained in jail for 43 years without committing any crime.

Missouri’s Republican Attorney General Andrew Bailey was against Sandra Home’s release and was creating obstacles for her release. Angered by this, the judge told Andrew Bailey that if he continued to fight against Home, it would be contempt of court.

Holm became the longest-serving woman ever wrongly imprisoned in the US. The verdict in Holm’s case was announced on June 14, but she was released on July 19 due to paperwork delays.

The Attorney General told the court about two old cases of the home but the court did not accept it
Attorney General Andrew Bailey told the court that Home had been sentenced to 10 years in prison for attacking a prison employee with a razor blade in 1996. He was also sentenced to two years in prison in 1984 for committing violence.

Bailey alleged that Home was a danger to himself and others. He should serve the sentence he received in 1996 and 1984. But the court did not listen to the Attorney General.

There is no evidence other than Home’s statement
Attorney General Bailey said that when the investigating agencies questioned Bailey in a psychiatric hospital in 2022, his mental condition was fine. But on this, Home’s lawyer said that when he has not committed any crime, then what is the point of all this.

The police and Attorney General Bailey have no evidence other than Home’s statement. After this, the court released Home. Home met her family in a park after being released from jail on Friday. During this, she hugged her daughter.

If not Sandra Home, then who killed her?
Sandra’s lawyer said that during interrogation, Home was given a lot of medicines. She was tortured a lot. Tired of this, Sandra Home accepted the charge of murder. However, when she was asked the reason for the murder, she could not give any answer.

Later, Sandra Home told her mother in a letter that she had not killed anyone. After this, she revealed in a conversation with her lawyer that she was threatened that if she did not accept the charges, she would be imprisoned for life.

After accepting the charges, several petitions were filed to declare Sandra innocent but most of them were rejected. Later, during the investigation of this case, it was found that at the time of Jeske’s death, the car of Michael Holman, an officer of the police department, was parked near her house.

Later, evidence of murder started emerging against Holman, but Holman died in 2015. Due to this, the murder could not be fully investigated. Sandra was later declared innocent.
