In August Mahan Air and Saffaran Airlines were among the largest local operators in terms of international seat capacity from Iran. Mahan Air had about 15,600 seats per week and Saffaran Airlines had about 10,500 seats. On September 8, 27 Iranian airlines were banned. America has already taken action against Iranian airlines. On September 8, the US Treasury had imposed sanctions on a total of 36 companies and entities, including 27 Iranian airlines. The US alleges that Iran uses its airlines and their associated networks to transport weapons, people and other contraband from one place to another.
