America has removed 13.5 kg of highly enriched uranium from Venezuela. This uranium was kept in an old research reactor there for many years. The US said on Friday that the uranium was removed from the site near Caracas and then safely sent to the US. This operation was carried out jointly by America, Venezuela, Britain and IAEA. According to the US Department of Energy, uranium was transported to America by land and sea. It will now be processed at the Savannah River Nuclear Site in South Carolina. US agency National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) said that this operation is important for the security of South America and the US. According to the agency, Venezuela’s RV-1 research reactor was used for nuclear research for several decades. Even after research stopped in 1991, highly enriched uranium continued to be kept there. America executed the mission in less than 6 weeks. According to American officials, this work was completed in less than six weeks. Uranium was packed in special containers. After this, about 100 miles were taken by road to the port. From there it was sent to America by ship of Britain’s Nuclear Transport Solutions Company. NNSA Deputy Administrator Dr. Matt Napoli also reached Venezuela to monitor this mission. He said that this operation was successful because of the experience of the team. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) also confirmed the operation. The agency said it was a complex and sensitive operation. According to the NNSA, since 1996, the agency has removed or secured more than 7,350 kg of highly enriched uranium and plutonium from many countries around the world. According to the report, the Trump administration has been putting pressure on Iran for a long time regarding the highly enriched uranium. Iran is said to have about 408 kg of uranium. However, America has not been successful in removing it yet. America’s interference in Venezuela is increasing. There has also been a change in the relations between America and Venezuela. In recent months, several US officials, including CIA Director John Ratcliffe, visited Venezuela. After seven years, commercial flights have also started between the two countries. The US Embassy has also reopened. Venezuela is among the countries with the largest oil reserves in the world. The report said that America is now trying to increase business in the energy and mining sectors there. However, some pro-democracy groups are also criticizing this policy of the Trump administration.
