PM Modi met Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni and Brazilian President Lula da Silva during the G20 Summit.
Despite the boycott by US President Donald Trump, on the first day of the G20 summit, the member countries unanimously approved the manifesto prepared by South Africa.
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said that it was very important for all countries to agree on the final statement, even if the US did not join it.
Trump had talked about sending an American official to host the last session. According to Reuters, the South African presidency rejected the offer to hand over hosting rights to a US official.
African President Ramaphosa will today hand over the next presidency of the G20 to the ‘vacant chair’. Actually, America is to host the G20 Summit in 2026. However, due to Trump’s boycott, no representative of America attended the summit.

Modi said- it is necessary to change the old development model
PM Modi addressed the first two sessions of the G20 summit. In the first session, he presented India’s perspective on global challenges to the world.
Modi appealed to rethink the parameters of the old development model. He said- The old development model snatched resources, it is necessary to change it.
In the second session of the summit, the PM talked about India’s Shree Anna (coarse grains), climate change, G20 satellite data partnership and disaster risk reduction.

G7 countries created G20
The G20 is seen as an extension of the G7, a group of the world’s most powerful countries. The G7 consists of France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Britain, the US and Canada.
In 1997-98, many countries in Asia (Thailand, Indonesia, Korea etc.) were facing economic crisis. At that time only G7 (7 rich countries) used to take decisions, but the crisis was in Asia.
G7 realized that now only 7 countries can run the world together, but developing countries like India, China, Brazil will also have to be included. These countries created the G20 in 1999.
Initially it was a forum of only finance ministers and central bank governors. Then in 2008, it was decided that not only the Finance Minister, but also the President and Prime Minister of the countries would participate in it.
The first Leaders Summit was held in Washington in November 2008. After this this summit is held every year.
