Customs department officials have seized smuggled cigarettes at Sri Guru Ramdas Ji International Airport in Amritsar. These cigarettes were seized from a passenger. After which, Customs has seized the cigarettes and started taking action and questioning the arrested passenger. This is a month old case.

According to information received from Customs Department sources, the passenger had landed at Amritsar Airport from Sharjah. When his luggage was chunked, 24,800 cigarettes were recovered from it. When their market value was checked, their value came out to be Rs 4.21 lakh.
The person had brought the cigarettes along with his luggage from Sharjah.
Gold smuggling from Dubai has been reported several times at the Amritsar airport, but this is the second case of cigarette smuggling in a month.
About 1 lakh cigarettes were seized on August 2
In the past one month, cigarette smuggling has increased at Amritsar airport. On August 2, in two separate cases, the customs seized nearly 1 lakh imported cigarettes. Their market value was estimated to be around 18 lakh rupees.
