In 2003, America attacked Iraq and dictator Saddam Hussein was overthrown. Baghdadi considered this a threat to Iraq and decided to take revenge from America. Baghdadi formed his own small terrorist organization. This organization started targeting American and Western countries.

In 2004, the US Army arrested Baghdadi and released him after 10 months of captivity. After his release, Baghdadi joined al-Qaeda. In 2006, he joined AQI’s organization Mujahid Shura Council. In the same year, this organization was transformed into the Islamic State of Iraq and Baghdadi became a part of its advisory Shura Council.

From here he started expanding the Islamic State of Iraq. In 2013, this organization sent fighters against President Bashar al-Assad to Syria and established the Al-Nusra organization there.

In April 2013, Baghdadi gained control in Iraq and Syria. It was here that he founded IS. By June 2014, IS captured most parts of Iraq.
