Haryana wrestler Ritika Hooda will represent India in the 76 Kg weight category at the Paris Olympics today. Her match will be at 3 pm. Ritika started wrestling at the age of 9. She says that to win gold in the Olympics, she trained for 7 hours daily.

Before going to Paris, Ritika Hooda had said, ‘When she was not selected for the Commonwealth and Asian Games, she had decided to quit wrestling. Her parents encouraged her to play wrestling.

So she has decided that she will not let anything dominate her mind and will play freely. She focused a lot on speed work and smart work. Her goal is to win gold.

People reached Ritika Hooda’s house before she left for Paris Olympics.

Started wrestling in 2015
Ritika Hooda is a resident of Kharkada village in Rohtak district. Her father Jagbir Hooda is a farmer. Before coming into wrestling, her father Jagbir had inspired her to play handball. After this, her father felt that individual sports provide more opportunities.

So they took Ritika to Chhotu Ram Akhara in 2015. There coach Mandeep recognised her potential.

Ritika said that at that time she had not thought that she would ever qualify for the Olympics and become the first Indian woman. Players from many countries are participating in the Olympics. There are different strategies to defeat them. She has watched everyone’s matches and worked on them. I will play attacking with some and defending with others.

Ritika Hooda said that her coach and parents have played an important role in bringing her here. Her father Jagbir Hooda brings food and sports related items for her in every situation. Her mother Neelam takes care of her food and drink. Coach Mandeep gives her good training in the field. The people around her also support her completely. Whatever God gives, she will be happy with it.

Ritika is the first female player to win gold in the Under 23 World Championship
Ritika Hooda is the first Indian female wrestler to win a gold medal in the Under-23 category of the World Championship. She performed brilliantly in the championship held in Tirana, the capital of Albania, in December 2023 and won the gold medal. Earlier, only one male wrestler from India had won a gold medal in the Under 23 World Championship.
