France demanded to call an emergency meeting in the United Nations
France has demanded an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council regarding Israel’s increasing military action in Lebanon. This demand was made when the Israeli army captured the strategic Beaufort fort in southern Lebanon.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barro said that France recognizes Israel’s right to self-defense, but it is not appropriate to continue military operations inside Lebanon and deepen the occupation there. According to him, the current situation may further increase tension in the area.
France says it is necessary to prevent the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah from spreading further. For this reason he has demanded the United Nations Security Council to immediately discuss this issue.
After the capture of Beaufort Fort, Israel has also ordered people in a large area of southern Lebanon to evacuate their homes. France fears that this could deepen the humanitarian crisis and further increase the conflict between the two countries.
