Dadasaheb Phalke Award will be given to Mithun Chakraborty this year. Recently Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has made its official announcement.
It has been announced on Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav’s official We are proud to announce that the Dadasaheb Phalke Selection Jury has decided to give this award to legendary actor Shri Mithun Chakraborty this year for his iconic contribution to Indian cinema.
Mithun Chakraborty will be given this honor at the 70th National Film Award Ceremony to be held on 8 October 2024.
Did more than 350 films, won 3 National Awards
Mithun Chakraborty was born on 16 June 1950 in Kolkata. His real name is Gaurang Chakraborty. Mithun Da started his acting career with the 1976 art film Mrigya. He received his first National Award for this film. Mithun has received 3 National Awards in his career. He received the second National Award for the 1993 film Tahader Katha, while the third National Award was for the 1996 film Swami Vivekananda.
In an acting career spanning nearly 4 decades, Mithun Da has worked in more than 350 films in many languages like Bengali, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Odia and Bhojpuri.
Mithun Chakraborty has been awarded Padma Shri in January 2024. Mithun is counted among the greatest actors in the history of Indian cinema. Mithun is the only actor who has been awarded the National Award for Best Actor for his very first film. Mithun Da was one of the highest paid actors of India between the 80-90s. Mithun Chakraborty’s last released Hindi film was 2022’s The Kashmir Files. Apart from this, he has appeared in Bengali films Prajapati and Kabuliwala.
Mithun Chakraborty had 19 films released in the year 1989, in which he was seen as a lead actor. This record name of his was registered in Limca Book of Records. It has been almost 35 years since this happened, but till date no actor has been able to break this record. The 1982 film Disco Dancer is the first film of Hindi cinema to earn Rs 100 crore.
Waheeda Rehman had received this honor last year
In the year 2023, veteran actress Waheeda Rehman was honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. She was the 8th woman to receive this award. Before her, Devika Rani, Ruby Meyers, Kanan Devi, Durga Khote, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Asha Parekh have received this award.
