The US military is increasing its presence in the Middle East. According to an American official, about 9,000 soldiers are being sent with a group of ships. These include more than 7,000 sailors and 2,000 marines.
This group includes the USS Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group, which departed recently. The cruiser USS Chosin is also with him. The second group is the USS Makin Island Amphibious Readiness Group. It consists of amphibious landing ships named USS John P. Martha and USS Anchorage.
According to the official, there may be three aircraft carriers in the area by the end of October. Adding those already in place, there would be more than 20,000 sailors and marines and hundreds of aircraft, an unusually large number.
