CBI has arrested Debabrata Dutta, an absconding accused in the ₹17.22 crore chit fund scam involving Odisha, from Siliguri in West Bengal. Dutta was the then proprietor of DNB Food Processing Private Limited and was absconding since December 2022. According to CBI, he along with others lured people with attractive returns to deposit money and allegedly embezzled it. CBI had declared Dutta absconding in the charge sheet filed on December 26, 2022, while a non-bailable warrant was issued against him on August 5, 2024. Based on information, the agency caught him from Siliguri on 28 August 2026. Dutta is being brought to Bhubaneswar on transit remand, where he will be produced before the competent court.
